hi!
can somebody please tell me the best overclock settings for an sapphire 6990 ? i have move the bios switch...okay?
also i have one 5870 in the same system..its dedecated for mining ..will this work?
i am using archlinux and run them headless..

okay..i have not crossfired them..
i set the following in an skript
BIOS switch at "overclocked" position 1;
aticonfig --odsc=950,300 --adapter=0 which is 5870
aticonfig --odsc=990,890 --adapter=1 which is 6990
aticonfig --odsc=990,890 --adapter=2 which is 6990
with listadapters i get 0=5870 1 =6990 and 2 =6990
so is this right? do i have to clock every core and then start mining for each one seperate right?

okay seems i get them to work..
i reinitialised them all
but now I can start the 5870 and works without error via skript mine0 for adapter0
then i start a second terminal to fire on the first core of the 6990 via mine1 for adapter1 my display goes black..but still active..as my display doesnt turn off ..just black
switching to the 5870 then does not help...any idea?

Have you tried them without any overclocks first?

i did this http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=7374.msg307192#msg307192then it worked onthe first core for a few seks then hanged..no blackscreen anymore..just hangs it up after showing 0 mhash for a few seks the 5870 works without problems.. i am right the OC switch in pos1 is switched right? i assume pos 0 is standard right? |

switch is now stadard pos..i removed xorg and reinitilised..now they work..not OC'ed but i will check that tomorrow ! thx anyway

Sounds like you just need to find some less aggressive overclocks then remember every card is different the mining hardware comparison its a good start but any card could run above our below anything listed there.

990mhz is an absolutely insane overclock. Don't start with stuff like that, not to mention the fact most 6990's can't take those frequencies (even if they can you'll have to up the voltage leading in too much power consumption compared to the extra hashrate)
I find 920MHz a stable frequency which yields about 410mhash/s per core for a total of 820mhash/s per card.

AmdOverdriveCTRL does exactly the same. Do you have any tips? I might just flash the bios with RBE if there's no other solution. |

It works on every single card I have across all my rigs, it can apparently control any sort of memory. I also succeeded in downclocking to 820mhz on the memory with MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 B5, though it displays at 819.  |

okay tried it with 925,850 works stable OC switch at standard position but i only get 280mh/s on bioth cores?? what am i doing wrong  the 5870 runs at 404mh/s stable with 950/300 |

without OC and OC switch @ bios2 i get to 336mh/s on 6990 BUT core 1 always hangs itself up after a few seks |

this is reaqlly strange..now everything works fine on core 2 even get to around 400mh/s but core1 is always hanging up after 3-10 sekonds.. tried everything..other kernel..other pool.. with commands ..naked.. please help  |

this is really really strange ...i just started them all @ btcguild and they work flawlessly  !?!? with 376mh/s all my other 36 5870 are running @ bitlockers and no pronlem?? can somebody please explain that? ^^ EDIT : dunno why but after rewriting the scripts it works now but still @ 321mh/s ?? why is btcguild so muc faster ?? (besides their idle messages) ? |

Sounds like you have Powertune enabled on one of the cores, hampering it's performance.
Go to overdrive & set the power slider to 20 to disable PT.
Also, test vanilla (or 3% modded) POCLBM with arguments -v -w128, you should be getting minimum 400mhash/s on both cores.
