Dear Wikipedia,
If you do not start accepting bitcoin, we, the bitcoin community, will conflate every media story and mention of Wikipedia with Wikileaks and Julian Assange, and vice versa.
Regards,
Speak for yourself. Don't include me on that "community" of "we" you talk about. Wikipedia needs donations, time to asktell them to accept bitcoin againgo fuck themselves. FTFY.

But yeah, what Psy said. Anybody who's been around for long enough knows that Wikipedia can bend over and walk backwards into a wall of dicks.

The solution to getting Wikipedia to accept bitcoin is as follows: - A formal response needs to be published to Wikipedia's statement listed on their FAQ page:
The Wikimedia Foundation, as a donor-driven organization, has a fiduciary duty to be responsible and prudent with its money. This has been interpreted to mean that we do not accept "artificial" currencies – that is, those not backed by the full faith and credit of an issuing government. We do, however, strive to provide as many methods of donating as possible and continue to monitor Bitcoin with interest and may revisit this position should circumstances change. Reference: https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/FAQ/en#Why_does_the_Wikimedia_Foundation_not_currently_accept_Bitcoin.3F
This response needs to meet Wikipedia's requirements for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability#Reliable_sources and should also address the importance of Wikipedia to bitcoin (i.e., Why is Wikipedia accepting bitcoin important?), also the incorrect use of the word "artificial", possibly address the "not backed by the full faith and credit of an issuing government", along with explaining that the donations could be liquidated instantly rendering the implication that accepting bitcoin would cause them to not meet their fiduciary duties incorrect and that by not accepting bitcoin, one could claim that they are actually doing just the opposite.
It may be wise to have the response(s) come from people who are notable.
- Then update the wiki page on bitcoin referencing both the formal response and the Wikipedia FAQ page.
- Let the dust settle (i.e., there will be some dispute on the Talk page as to if this information should be on the bitcoin wiki)
- Then, write a formal letter requesting them to revisit accepting bitcoin claiming that the circumstances have changed.
I would not be surprised if the FAQ page suddenly got revised and the bitcoin question removed entirely.

It would be much easier for me to donate if they accepted BTC. I just don't feel sharing my name, e-mail and credit/debit card information with them or with anyone. I don't say that spamming Wikipedia is the way but I think they should reconsider accepting BTC.

Why? They seem to not want our money. PLEASE don't try to force it on them.

Why? They seem to not want our money. PLEASE don't try to force it on them. My point is that some people above actually tried to suggest Wikipedia to accept Bitcoin. But if Wikipedia finally accepts Bitcoin, and no Bitcoin donation actually being made afterwards, it's just super lulz

Many companies are starting to accept BTC like Wordpress, why not Wikipedia? It would be like a miracle.
