They're now requiring identity verification which I will or cannot comply with; I don't know if they'd let me withdraw my funds through support but the site is not letting me.

So I am making my account up for sale at a discount.

I'm sure you can change the email address through support.

Sell for: 2.75BTC

there's approximately 3BTC in value on the account:

Balance: $0.00  3.00540000 BTC

To get this straight, BitStamp is not letting you send bitcoins without having your identity?  This seems to undermine one of the core benefits of bitcoin: account anonymity

Even Mt.Gox lets people deposit and withdraw bitcoins without supplying any personal information.

420, I think you shouldn't be telling us how many BTC exactly you have got deposited on bitstamp, if they find this thread they may be able to identify your account (your offer is against their ToS).

im not going to spam everyone with PM's

bitstamp has collected trading fees for me for months and they didn't even send me an email about this shit.

I just think "there's approximately 3BTC in value on the account" should be enough for prospective buyers and the very specific amount of 3.xxxxxxxx (I intentionally wrote it this way in case you decide to edit your post) is something that may help bitstamp employees identify your account should they stumble upon this thread.

But do as you wish, I won't spam here anymore Wink

It's sad to see more exchanges getting bureaucratized...

That is most definitely false. Gox requires ID for BTC withdraws.

I withdrew my last BTC from Mt.Gox no more than 3 months ago. I have never sent them any documents. IIRC ID was only required for people who wanted to withdraw >100 BTC per day and splitting it into smaller chunks solved the problem.

And this still hasnt changed.
Concerning Bitstamp, they are certainly going way over the top, especially since there are no AML/KYC regulations regarding this.
Also they now sit on 26254 unanswered tickets, since they failed to inform their customers.
Welcome to Gox 2.0.

I don't think you understand how it works. You cannot sell your bank accounts.

He is selling a username and password to an unverified account which someone would presumably be able to log in to, verify using their identity, and withdraw the Bitcoins.

My main concern is that BitStamp/The Feds/DoJ/Authorities of various kinds can then link your identity with whatever transfers you've made.  This is quite scary, if i wanted to use money this way I would use a credit card.  Without the financial privacy bitcoin provides, I doubt it would have grown quite so popular.

Though playing devils advocate here..... it is inherently obvious why Bitstamp is doing this:  They are moving in the direction of compliance with the same bank secrecy regulations required of traditional financial institutions.  US authorities in particular have been quite trigger happy when it comes freezing bank accounts associated with things it deems not-compliant with its regulations.  Mt. Gox has already been under fire, and I believe this is an attempt by bitstamp to show "full compliance" in order to avoid any legal issues.

I am currently having the same problem with bitstamp . and worse thing is I am giving them all my legit information and they are not accepting it. I think they have figured out a way to keep peoples bitcoin. you cant verify well you cant have when you give up over time they close your account and they keep.

That's just my personal opinion

I've recently submitted my ID and transferred money to my bank account, was liek 1-2 days. I do not believe any other exchange offers this, I doubt you can even withdraw normally from some.

If you care about your identity - you could buy/lend some fake ID for 0.1 btc and solve your problem. I do not care about mine, cause I had to submit it lots of places locally, and I doubt their safeguarding skills, so to heck with that anyway. I believe I'm fully compromised at this point. You may believe you have not, untill this point, but most likely you have.
