I have searched extensively and not found the answer to my problem.
My new machine has:
Mobo: Asus TUF Z270 Mark 2 with updated current BIOS (updated via the BIOS online updater feature). CPU: Intel gen7 Pentium PSU: EVGA 1000w G2 Ram: 1 stick of DD4 4GB Crucial Balistix HDD: 80GB SSD OS: Xubuntu 16.04 Kernel: 4.13.0.36 (also tried rolling back to 4.8.0 to see if it helped, but it didn't help) AMD Driver: AMD Blockchain Drivers Beta 17.40-438984
So, I assembled this computer, installed Linux. Upgraded the distro, packages, etc..., installed AMD blockchain drivers, ROMCL, and Claymore's Dual ETH/Decred miner ver 11.2. In the BIOS I disabled the internal graphics, HD audio, USB 3.1 and turned down all PCIe lane speeds to Gen2 (in anticipation of adding more cards later).
I have a good PowerColor RX570 pulled from an Asus Z170-AR rig mining at 24-25MHs. I put this same PowerColor RX570 into my newly built machine for a test run.
With only this one GPU inserted into the main 16x PCIe slot without any riser, I cannot get anymore than 17MH/s from it. I put the card into another miner and it runs at 24-25MH/s. I put the card back into this TUF Z270 rig and it runs at 16-17MH/s. I have built several miners using the Z170-AR boards and can reliably get rigs of 6x570s running at 24-25MH each using this procedure.
What I am missing with this Z270 setup? I would have loved to have kept using the Z170-ARs, but they are no longer being made and obviously don't support the new Intel generation. Any help is greatly appreciated!
