I've been thinking about it for the past while, is it useful to have credit cards ?
I use my visa for buying things online, but I've been thinking about canceling and trying to use only bitcoins online for making purchases...

not sure how viable this is, has anyone else cancelled credit cards  and still make do online ?
It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Since paypal can withdrawl straight from the chequing account, there is no need imho to use credit cards online.  Every time I get a credit card I just max it out and then get annihilated with interest!  I wish every site accepted bitcoins...

as long as you pay off your credit card on time, there are some good to using one.. my president's choice financial mastercard gains me PC points, where i can go buy groceries for free.  that's if i pay off the credit card in the first place.

I have one, only used it 2 times (small amounts) in the past 10 years and paid back at the end of the month. In that way they are ok.

I use credit cards pretty frequently. Mostly for business travel, hotels and such(not my personal card). But for private purposes i mainly use it on porn sites. For Amazon and such i prefer wire transfer or paypal and hopefully more and more bitcoin.

not sure how viable this is, has anyone else cancelled credit cards  and still make do online ?
I wouldn't cancel it yet. Maybe switch to some prepaid virtual card like http://wirecard.com instead?

I use credit cards and debit cards all of which I've had tons of problems with it. I would love to cancel mine the weird thing is that the business I'm trying to start up will require me to have one in order to pay wholesalers off and my business is aimed at the convince of not using your credit card and to be able to buy ANYTHING(legal) with bitcoins. From house hold detergent, to Home entertainment systems, to computer monitors all the way to professional DJ tables(maybe cars... one day). So if you have a list that you would like to write out on the average things you'd like to buy with bit coins, now is the time to do it as I'm still in the process of applying for suppliers for my business.

Oh yeah I use Visa.

Most of my card use comes from a gas card. Just like mc_lovin, I get rewards and I pay it off so I don't incur interest. I work for tips and everyone I work with thinks it's stupid, because they pay in cash (meanwhile they search online at work to see whose gas is 2 cents cheaper). But I get 5% cash back (at 3.50 a gallon, that's about 17 cents back per gallon) and I get to pay it back at a later time with devalued dollars.
