Why rely solely on merchant participation to use Bitcoin?

Is there an application than can convert the Bitcoins accessible on my phone into dollars at a Point of Sale one button/swipe transaction into the Merchant choice of currency? This would allow any Bitcoin user to use their Bitcoins at any location in any currency even if the Merchant does not accept Bitcoins. You could charge a small percentage of transaction fee to use the ease of use service.

Not that I'm aware of but you could easily try Bitcoin debit cards services, you just deposit BTC into your account, they get converted to the card currency (USD/GBP/EUR) and you use them. A list: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1242788.0
