Tether now prints $100 million DAILY  Smiley

That is precisely how the US government does it.  Nobody seems to worry about the dollar.  So why not Tether.  WTF?  Fake money is fake money.  If everyone believes it is real, then it is real!!!!

But with all that newly printed USDT, should we be expecting all that to pump BTC for 2018? Where will all of that go if their not really backed up by real fiat lol.

The fact that the New York Times is reporting such a thing is scaring, because if there is anything not perfectly OK at all at Bitfinex this news could become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Bloomberg says that both Bitfinex and Tether have been Supoenaed by the American regulators:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-30/crypto-exchange-bitfinex-tether-said-to-get-subpoenaed-by-cftc

It happened on Dec 6th, but has only just been leaked to the press.

This does not look good at all. It could very much be related to the big drop in the price that we are witnessing right now.

Tether went from printing $100 million a day to $0 a day over night. No new Tether printed in over a month. Are we supposed to believe demand dropped 100% or is it more likely there was never any demand in the first place?    Grin

If so, why did it stop all at once? I mean if they are printing unbacked Tethers. Do you think it has anything to do with the subpoenas from the CFTC?

In theory, this kind of abrupt stoppage could also indicate the loss of banking partners as Tether becomes even more of a pariah in the banking world. I can't imagine why any banks would knowingly be involved with them at this point.
