Removing BFL case on singles

Hi all,

I was thinking of removing the BFL cases on my singles to help with sound. Im wondering if anyone has done it if they have a guide or can advise on how difficult it was to remove.

Try putting them in a soundproof box, with a hole to get out the cables.

yes. put a hot item into a soundproof box with only 1 hole. 

ignore that suggestion as it is trolling at the best. you can take the case off to improve airflow, but this may or may not affect noise much

I've heard that if you do it properly, you can lower the temps and noise.

Take it out of the case, and remove the two big fans. Then swap the direction of the two lower fans, so they're blowing down instead of up. If you really want to lower the noise, replace the smaller fans with some better ones. I guess a lot of the noise comes from those anyways.

The case forms a critical part of the design to cool the piss poorly designed SM PSU's

YEP BFG miner might real a lower temp... but you have to understand the design to see why.
Then there are the BUGS....... ever wondered WHY bfgminer says the voltage is 16-21V, even when measured with a MULTIMETER it is only 13?

First, does the sound come from the fan? If it does then it would help if you remove the case as its not so hot. But you need to find a way to reduce the fan speed

I've replaced the front and rear plates of my BFL Single SC with special, professionally-machined plates designed by this guy:

and I've noticed a definite noise reduction.

EasyMiner reports operating temperatures lower by 2-4 °C, which in turn means that the fans don't need to rotate so fast, which is another reason for the noise reduction, and as a bonus, the miner consumes less electricity.

All it took was removing four screws (you need a Torx screwdriver) and replacing the plates.

Yet, despite the gains, the machine remains a little too noisy, so I eventually bought a 5-meter USB cable and I am about to install the miner in the next room.
