Hi,

I have noticed a very annoying issue in that if your computer crashes or doesn't power off correctly when bitcoin is still obtaining blocks (Can take hours to catch up...) Then the blkindex.dat file becomes corrupt and you have to remove the count files (blkindex.dat & blk0001.dat) in order to open bitcoin again. At this stage you must go through ALL the blocks again...
Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Other than not using Windows? Lol...

Don't run old versions of Bitcoin.

Fix whatever is causing your computer to crash.
