I have real rigs and I average around 1 to 1.2 GH/s with those but get this:

32MH/s from my laptop with poclbm's f40 flag so it doesn't affect performance AND averages 15-25 watts during usage. Its running a HD6470M which I believe is a severely neutered 5850 (maybe 5830?). I am not advocated going out and buying $1000+ laptops for mining, just wanted to share my experience.

I'd like to see a picture of a Watt meter (like a "Kill-a-watt") with that.

Here's the best I can do for now. This is during normal workload as well. Approximately 8 tabs of Firefox, the miner, 5 remote desktops, Microsoft Outlook, and my company's IM program running.

I'm not a hater.  I just don't see the point. 32mhs isn't enough to compensate for the wear and tear on your laptop. Heck, 32mhs could be accomplished by a little overclock. It is .3% more hashing power for you.

I made over 600 BTC with my Core2Duo T7500 laptop back in the day (I think I was hitting maybe 2 MH/s tops lol).  But mining wasn't nearly as profitable back then as it is now and I didn't really think Bitcoins were going anywhere.  I ended up reformatting the drive w/o backing up my wallet.  Oh well, live and learn.

If it's a quality brand I wouldn't writer about it too much unless you let it overheat as far a damage goes. I used the last thinkpad I had your f@h for there years before I bought a newer one. Now the new one manages about thirty mhash although with an nvidia quadro it's diving up more than 20a to run.

I replace my laptop on average every year and a half (its a company laptop on lease). That being said, I am not overclocking it whatsoever and the fan barely runs so I know it isn't overheating. On top of that I don't care if it would ruin the laptop because I get a new one on a schedule and the warranty covers if it breaks before then.

Heat will reduce the life of the battery significantly, I would consider removing it while mining.

My Alienware m17x has two 5870m cards and runs at 308mh/s (stock clock).  Fans do not run at 100%.

Going to buy a second one and install a 6970m (already purchased) and a 6990m when I can purchase it seperately.

Mobility cards are far more efficient than their desktop counterparts (albeit at half the speed for twice the price).

it would be nice if we could get
a.) cheap mobile cards.
b.) adapters to fit them in desktops at a resonable price.

Here is a link to company that sells a dual MXM to single PCIe adapter:

http://www.pcidv.com/products.asp?id=628

Have tried contacting them numerous times without a response.  If you are able to somehow contact them I'd love to buy 5 or so of these adapters.

Pipesnake,

I think this is the card in your link

Are u just thinking about feasibility of mining on notebooks or is it about efficiency?

Otherwise start thinking of underclocking your rigs. I give you something to think of: 505W @ 1.3 GHashes using 4 x 5870

Beat this!

Yes you can, but just in idle mode  Grin. No way to get them down this low. Otherwise proof it!

BTW: 5870 gives you 320MHashes@ stock. I think you mean a different card - otherwise proof it!
