Anybody know how to fix this error message?

It happens right as I try to run the client which is just after downloading it.  I have already tried to uninstall it and shutdown a couple of times.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Go to the bitcoin data directory (%appdata%/bitcoin/) and delete everything but the wallet.dat file. Should fix it.

Garrett,

Many thanks. Yes it works and I managed to download the original block chain.  But I had only two connections.  I set my router to 8330 and I also set the client to 8329.  Did not seem to help much.  If I start mining I will need more connctions>!!!

Thank you.

PS: Question for the newbie monkey mind here please.  I am having trouble locating the wallet.dat file.  Once I do generate an "offline" secure address and wallet.dat file I will need to copy it securely as many others have already posted.  Monkey Mind Question is if I dont delete that string particular string out of the file (after I copy it securely to someplace else) and then I start mining wont others be able to "see" or hack it if I leave it in the data directory?

Since I came to this thread by search engine, having experienced the same problem (with the Namecoin Qt client), I will add that for anyone's future reference, on Windows 7 at least, you can just type "%appdata%" (without quotes) into the address bar of a Windows Explorer window, and it will take you there.

blogospheroid, on the off chance you read this, and have not learned this lesson in the past two years: when you find the answer to questions, it's more helpful to others if you share what the answer is, or link to it, instead of just saying "I found it".
