If it does then we will see another small country coming against bitcoin while larger countries are in support of it. It wont affect btc globally yet it might affect a lot of Asian users here. Its pretty natural that such developing countries will have their doors closed for such crypto currencies as these will leak out a lot of money out of the country unaccountable from the eyes of government which these small countries cannot really afford to do.

Yes it is true. But it not the problem. I'm in sri lanka. Government ban bitcoin means they ban all crypto currencies. Then some exchangers will ban sri lanka from their list. We will cant invest in ICO s. And their bounty programs ban sri lankan peaple from ther campain list. Hens ban bitcoin means i lost my main money earning way🙁

I am not from Sri Lanka so I don't know which sites they have blocked. If you can give us a list if the sites that have been blocked by the Sri Lankan government, we would be able to comment on that. But the social media site blocking seems like a part of the ongoing issues with Rohinga refuges and Buddhists. So the ban should not be permanent. But if the ban is permanent, then it may go to any extent.

We need governments like Japan and Germany who can think progressive. If the Sri Lankan government bans crypto currency completely, it will show why a nation can be poor with no intention to come out of that situation, just like Bangladesh.

Even if they ban the whole internet fo you think it matters for bitcoin? I dont think so because Sir Lanka is a small island with a small economy that cant influence the market of bitcoin or any other coin in any way because I dont think there are a lot of people using bitcoin is that country.

We dont have to worry about small countries banning bitcoin because they are the one who lose from this. Only if all of the small countries would bann bitcoin it will change something but 2-3 countries cant influence the price.

It's possible as with any country. Do these sites have anything to do with bitcoin or cryptocurrencies?

You're right, their GDP is only about 80bn which is really quite small, something like 1/200th of the size of the US or 1/150th of China.

Yes, it's only for social networks. But sometimes they put in a combo for bitcoin. For Sri Lanka, it's a foolish government. We earn money in crypto currency. By blocking social networks, we can not participate in the bounty campaign. The government does not want people to grow. So one day they will ban bitcoin.

I cannot say much SriLankan government but there are a lot of doubts regarding bitcoin situation in India.

The craze of bitcoins is more among the younger generation who are tech-savvy and comes with practical understanding, which is definitely better than the old Wall Street players are.
Bitcoins are not only popular in the USA. Purchasing and trading Bitcoin has recently passed on to other countries like India. However, the Indian government has asked the investors to stay away from the bitcoin exchange. However, there is no news about bitcoin being illegal in India.

Sri Lanka is a developing country But economic wise it is poor in the world. So it is not a big issue in crypto platform Bitcoin is always growing continuously we don't consider these kind of countries once it will announce in global currency automatically all the countries are accepting the Bitcoin. Sri Lanka also accepting the Bitcoin in future.

Does their blocking of social media sites have anything to do with Bitcoin? E.g., where there posts about Bitcoin that were the trigger for the block/ban decision?

It's important that we not jump to conclusions, and you haven't provided a source of your information so I want to make sure we don't get worked up over something that we know little about.

If any government banned bitcoin it would only apply to how their residents or citizens used Bitcoin. It may not apply to ownership, but for use as a transaction medium within their borders. And anyone who's been involved with Bitcoin over the last year knows that its use as a currency is being replaced with its use as an investment asset. In any event, Sri Lanka can't take down Bitcoin - it exists beyond their borders!

Sri Lanka has a limited internet anyway. I've read users on here complaining that their ISPs all share the same IP address ranges... so if you're banned on bitcointalk once, you're banned from most of sri lanka lol.

So that said, I feel their internet is primitive, and so maybe they're not really ready for blockchain tech and crypto.

I can see why they'd ban it -- not enough understanding + limited tech resources.

When the communist country China also cannot do anything to bitcoin so far. In that meanwhile Small Island will not able to do anything to bitcoin at all. If Srilanka bans bitcoin or ICO. Please go and settle on some European countries.
You can get the better job and earning with bitcoins to make your life pretty safe buddy.
Do you know all the middle east blocks the calling feature of every application except skype. Do you know this nothing right. As like that bitcoin ban on srilanka will not be outspoken everywhere. They are not big contributor to the bitcoin community.

They are worried because their economy is poor and when crypto enters their country people will prefer to trade in bitcoin than Sri Lankan money. Who will pay tax? government will become even poorer and it will turn into chaos. They are smart to ban it, but it won't be effective - they can just use privacy coins instead.
