Hello. I'm new to bitcointalk.org (obviously). Glad to be here.
I ask this because most websites require an IBAN which most U.S. bank accounts don't have, and a wire transfer usually costs $50 through U.S. banks.
Fellow Americans, which service do you use?

Coinbase is the easiest by far. Once you're tier two, transactions are processed instantly.

Localbitcoins and CampBX immediately come to mind. You can expect a bit of a markup from localbitcoins, but it's very convenient. CampBX is one of the few exchanges I know of that still uses Dwolla as a funding method, and setting up Dwolla is pretty simple.

Dwolla sent an email out a couple days ago saying that they are no longer going to be servicing virtual currency exchanges, including CampBX.

Coinbase is great, U.S. based, SEC approved, and funded by venture capital. It does however take about 5 week days to get coins, until you complete you're first purchase. Localbitcoins will be higher priced, and should be approached like craigslist. Don't show up alone, and meet in a public place.

coinbase is what hear the most, but i very much dislike their system. i want to immediately see my USD in my acct when I send it, and immediately buy btc, should that be my aim. for that, i try to trade p2p for btc-e codes or Bitstamp USD-IOUs (ripple), so i can set bids myself, or just trade p2p on local bitcoins or similar. you can wire to bitstamp too.

You can verify your account then you will get fast transfers.

The easiest way to buy bitcoins is to buy from a local seller at localbitcoins.com You meet the seller, while the bitcoins are in escrow and if you give him the money he immediately releases the bitcoins

Funny, what deposit method do you suggest there for US resident though ? Realistically, coinbase is best option I believe

When using coinbase to buy btc, you might be rejected once or twice... Just try to buy again, and once you do successfully wait 30 days. After 30 days, you can buy and sell btc instantly instead of waiting 5 days...
