Just curious on knowing how everyone got their first bitcoin! I heard about bitcoin from watching a documentary on Drugs then they mentioned something about SR and bitcoin. I looked up bitcoin and automatically became hooked on the idea.

The first time I ever got a bitcoin was from a stranger on a youtube video. He sent me 2 btc when they were worth 6 or 7 dollars.  Grin

IIRC, someone was giving away some fraction of a BTC for cell phone numbers.  I gave him mine and he dutifully sent some BTC.  I figured that I would not have the number forever as T-Mobile did not service the location I was planning to move to.  Not long after that I bought a whole one on e-bay.  I had just gotten bitcoind to compile and wanted something to play around with.  The most advertised faucet (Gavin's IIRC) was dry since this would have been during/after the run-up to $30-ish in 2011.

mining 3LTC
then trading it in early 2012 when litecoin was fluctuating rapidly between 1c and 2c

dang i missed those days of rapid price movements, i turned 3LTC into 152LTC  (about 0.18BTC) in 3 days then soon after the price of LTC went from 0.002 to 0.005 and i was feeling top of the world.. and had my first BTC

..
but now the price has stabilised with maybe a 1% movement if timed right per day.... dang i miss the volitility

roger ver gave me my first bitcoin, i was ordering 2 casacius bitcoins from him and at the time he had a special for 5 percent of the total order back in bitcoin.  The offer was for his memoryonly but i didn't realize that and sent him a bitcoin address. He said lol i can't give you five percent back in bitcoins when you are buying bitcoins but here is one bitcoin so you can now have one.  they were roughly 2.37 each at the time.  Moral of the story, Roger Ver is kickass.

Lost my money to a scammer here trying to buy my first BTC. I was more careful the second time and bought it from sublime5447 on May 2013.

Heard about Bitcoin when the difficulty was still under 100,000.  I mined 1 BTC/day with a single graphics card for a short period of time.  Deepbit, guiminer... ah, the memories.

Heard about SR and the dark web; curiosity led me into downloading tor and having a look at what was there.

I saw that everything was priced in Btc, that got me doing some research and discovering more and more.

Ah yes.  I started out by reading documentation which was only months old, but already completely obsolete (unbeknownst to me.)  bitcoind had a CPU miner built in and I used it.  I got kicked out of several mining pools for 'inefficiency' in short order before I fully comprehended what was going on.

So, I guess technically I got my first (tiny fraction of a) bitcoin in this manner, but it was such a tiny fraction that I didn't even bother to try to transfer it.  I was paranoid about the block chain size from early on in my research on Bitcoin.  I've always tried to avoid piss-ant transactions on general principle.  A hold-over from needing to pay attention to resources from my exposure to computers in the mid 80's I suppose.

I read about bitcoin in one spanish economic forum. I got interested because I heard about it in 2009.
