Why do you need to find out though? Can't you just try the airdrop to find out for sure? There's nothing for you to lose anyway.

Anyway, here are some topics with the same question:

How to prevent airdrop fraud
Thank !

If the airdrop asks you to send more than a few cents worth of coins for a transaction fee, then it's most likely a bad sign,

Air drops should be free, and if they're not, then you should see it as a red flag.

It's not necessarily a bad sign. Some airdrops asks you to send a few cents worth of coins just for you to prove ownership of a certain wallet. Though sending a few cents should only be an optional method, as airdrops usually accepts signed messages using your wallet to prove ownership.

There should be no harm to try out airdrop if they are giving it out completely for free. If in exchange, they are asking for something then you need to contemplate on it and decide whether you are ready to give what they are asking for. If it's just your email id then I would suggest to go for it. But if they are asking for more personal information or make some payments then it should ring an alarm in your mind.

Do you have any specific fraud experienced in any airdrop? If so, then kindly share detail so that other members can also know about it.

That doesn't make sense for public ledger coins where you can see how many coins are in an address. They don't need to prove ownership because everything is viewable on the block explorer.

But I guess for privacy coins this would be a requirement since the ownership can't be viewed easily on the blockchain

I don't actually think that it's a big deal if you signed up on a fraud airdrop or not. You wouldn't lose anything anyway. So I suggest just go sign up and hooe that it's not a fraud. Ot doesn't take so much of your time anyway.

SIMPLE AS "DONT JOINED". Less hassle less worries.

There is no way we can prevent aidrop fraud that is presented to us properly and managed well. We will just learned if that is fraud or not on the way. Obvious airdrop fraud should be automatically recognized by us and there are pointers to be noted as our references to it.

Hello, most of airdrop are fraud based on the convinction that newbies have about free money.
people think that cryptocurrencies are free money and scammers know it very well
so that they promise you free tokens and you loose your time filling up forms instead of learn and study cryptocurrencies, whitepapers, exploring blockchain technology.
some airdrop are legit, but veeeeery few!
first you need to learn how to recognize a good project!
good luck

There are two things you put under the risk:
1. Your wallet;
2. Your computer.

So not to loose all your money from ETH wallet, you should 1)never give your private key to anyone and 2)be aware of phishing.

To save your computer from malware just 1)do not install the wallets of the tokens that are being airdropped. Otherwise you may loose not anly your money, but your personal data as well .

I don't participate in airdrops, so I can't say much about it. Other users already gave you pretty good advices. I only can add - avoid airdrops which are asking too much personal information. I've heard that some airdrops even asking for ID card scan. It's really not worth to give that sensitive information to get some tokens. After all, it's likely that your personal information can be used for a bad things and you can get in some serious problems.

How to prevent airdrop fraud
Thank !

Wow, fantastic question! This is the first time I've seen someone ask it on this forum.

The best way to prevent airdrop fraud is to stop participating, signing up for airdrops. If you give someone a market to sell you something there will be people who will take advantage of that market - it's human nature.

Let's put airdrops into perspective:
  • If the ICO needs to give its tokens away, it's probably not worth much
  • How much does the fraud cost you? Nothing, so the most you endure is the time and energy spent signing up for or campaigning for the ICO

Now when you say "fraud" I suspect you've lost some money. In this case, you haven't participated in an airdrop. No matter what some marketer tells you, if you had to give them Ether or Bitcoin or any other currency for the tokens it's a purchase, not an airdrop.

Avoiding this kind of sales fraud is tougher. The best move is still to not participate, stick to the established tokens/coins, don't get in on an ICO. Besides the fraud, there's high likelihood the ICO will fail anyway, there just isn't that much room for so many new tokens to exist. And failure in the market and fraud are two entirely different things.

But from another perspective, airdrops only require you to follow them on some social networks, which is completely effort-free and cost less to you. And even if it was a fraud, you don't lose anything. And just getting free tokens for something you spent 30 seconds on is just a gift.
