Being a decentralized platform, NOIA Network relies heavily on building an army of widely dispersed user nodes. But what are the benefits and advantages to these individual NOIA users, scattered throughout the world? Let’s examine the point of view from NOIA’s proverbial “thousand points of light”.

It’s a technical project, many people don’t understand it… However, the NOIA creators haven’t even tried to explain how the system’s gonna work. Well, this could be interesting for some of us…

I read about the operation principle and the technical description and I’ll try to explain you. All in all, NOIA is the next-generation content scaling network, powered by blockchain technology. It uses unused bandwidth from computers around the world to create a widely distributed and integral layer of internet infrastructure for global content delivery.
What’s the point to create NOIA? Will any process start working better than now?
Sure! Otherwise, what sense does it make  to launch such a scale project?  NOIA is designed to serve as a bandwidth optimization mechanism for every type of web content and provide a significantly more effective and decentralized delivery method across the internet.
Unimaginable amount of resources in necessary to implement such a global project. Is it possible to unify them somehow?
All these resources will be provided by the network users which will provide free resources of their computers. Thousands and even hundreds of thousands will give every web-content supplier an opportunity to use this intra-network to deliver the content to the global audience.
Will the speed of transfer of content become faster?

Of course! Due to denser spread of Worker Nodes, content will reach regular users faster and being better quality. Also, it will decrease content delivery costs for NOIA Network clients. Our possible clients could be Youtube, Spotify, Pornhub, etc - companies, which deliver a lot of content.

How about legal violations if people deliver content? Do they have to check the content first and then make sure it is compliant with the law or will everything get distributed?

Thanks for a good question. Content delivered on NOIA is already publicly available on the internet so it would not change anything if we filtered it out. In addition, we will have integrated authentication mechanism for our customers (content aggregators), which has to be approved before using NOIA Network.

Ok and the integrated authentication mechanism, what kind of information does it ask from the content aggregators? Do they have to provide their full ID?

The content aggregators will need to sign contracts with NOIA Network Company in order to use our service. After that, we will white-list them. If the content matches the white-list pattern, it can be sent to NOIA nodes via our CSL service.

Two additional notes:

1. Because data is publicly available, in order to protect privacy of the users, we will encrypt the data before sending it to the nodes. Nodes will see, that people are downloading the data, but won't detect, whose data it is.
2. While CSL service needs white-list, it doesn't mean NOIA network on blockchain is a completely closed platform. Anyone can still hire nodes through the NOIA Network blockchain governance. CSL service from NOIA Network Company doesn't have any priviledge over others.

That means you network is not perfectly decentralized and also involves a lot of censorship if you are in a position to whitelist people or blacklist them? Sounds a lot like what we have to day with Youtube for example.

As you gave an example of Youtube censorship, I am sure that you are not fully familiar with NOIA's technology.

NOIA acts as an additional layer for content providers, such as Youtube, to optimize their content delivery processes. So if we talk about censorship, NOIA is not the case. During the early stages we will need to control which content providers we are dealing with. For example, we would certainly black-list child porn websites, if they would want to partner with us to optimize their content delivery. This is one of the cases, why we still need controlling unit and cannot be 100% decentralized at first. But as we improve, AI could black-list them automatically, without us interfering.

As it's seen on our roadmap, complete decentralization is planned for 2019, but we need analyze a lot of data and implement AI learning first.

This is a good case that you brought up for further discussion. We all believe to know what falls under the category of child porn. What if there are edge cases where the content is questionable, but might not violate the law in every country? What if a company isn't fully transparent about their intention, get verification from you and later on promote different content from what you have been told? Does that content go onto the blockchain?

Stas, if any business violates the agreement and hosts forbidden content, then it is mostly a legal issue and we will have technical means to recall them from the Network as fast as possible.

I guess I have to respect your answer, but I am still not fully satisfied. Decentralization should come with censorship resistance. We have seen that with Bitcoin and the child porn issue. Why should your system be different if it is supposed to become fully decentralized (2019 as you say)? Don't wanna take this argument too far, but it's just something I am seriously interested in. AI will also make mistakes. It is not the ultimate solution to everything. It's also not about saying your platform is bad. It is just about fully understanding the depth of strengths, weaknesses and threats. We all know that decentralization does not only have advantages.

*Decentralization should come with censorship resistance.*

This is an opinion, and I personally agree with you too. But remember that, the governance of NOIA Network implemented on Ethereum is "decentralized" in that sense, exactly because it is censorship resistance: anyone can becomes a node registered on it, and anyone can become a "business" and hire those nodes. Noia Network as a company registers as a "business" on the Noia Network Governance, enjoying no special treatment and having special rights than others, still reserves the rights of "censoring", if you like, its own customers and nodes. And this censorship is not part of the governance, but voluntary choice of the Noia Network company.

Ok this explains it in a better way. In other words, it would be theoretically possible for a bad actor (publishing bad content) to his own node and run a content delivery business? Could you do something against it if you don't control the node?

Yes, and it doesn't have to be his own nodes neither. Any node may choose work for any business so long as it sees beneficial, it could be token benefit or for a cause it likes. There is currently no plan yet to build a governance rule to be able to block specific node or business. Even if it would have such, I imagine it would have to be based on some sort of "democracy" with voting and weighted by the stakes in the network.

Awesome, thanks for al the responses but now I fully got it. Hard piece of work Tongue NOIA is on my list now and I'll do some research around that topic. If there is another question, I'll know where to ask! Tongue

Glad to hear Smiley  Sure, we are here 24/7 and if you need quicker answers - you can find us on Telegram group: https://t.me/NoiaNetwork

How do you plan on Marketing ? from the node / end-user side, and from the content provider side ?
How are you going to find nodes ? most of them aren't here.
Do you already have some relations with the content providers ? If so why ?
I really love the concept but I'm sceptical about the execution so that the project become sucessfull

Hello, so first of all, we will target specific markets (countries) with certain characteristics as relatively large incoming internet traffic from other geographies, great internet infrastructure inside the country and large population density. We are considering the UK, the Japanese and the South Korean markets as most promising and where we plan to start.
Then, to attract a solid number of reliable Nodes within the proposed target markets, a promotional Smart Contact based Node Reward Program will be developed to reward Nodes for contributing bandwidth and storage in advance of actually delivering data. Through this and other measures, we aim to create an initial community of 2,000 Nodes within each target market.
It is a bit too early to talk with content providers. Answering your question why they would be interested I invite you to read this article: https://noia.network/noia-offers-unlimited-scalability-plus-lower-costs-for-smaller-content-providers/. To add, we do have serious strategic partners like Baltneta - one of the largest ISP’s in the Baltic and Nordic regions. They will be testing the NOIA Node Client on its own systems.

Is this basically torrent, P2P file sharing, but with incentives? How can anyone make sure the files didn't include any unwanted content?

Hello, yes, NOIA Network has similarities as some parts are based on torrent protocol, full details will be disclosed when we open source certain parts of the technology. The incentive is that using NOIA Network you will be economically rewarded.

Only the content that is public will be delivered through the NOIA Network and data transfers between nodes and users will be encrypted. To ensure security and govern processes at the beginning our Master Node will be centralized.
Also, the content aggregators (like Youtube) will need to sign contracts with NOIA Network Company in order to use our service. After that, we will white-list them. If the content matches the white-list pattern, it can be sent to NOIA nodes via our CSL service. If not - we will have technical means to recall them from the Network asap.

In addition, our clients will be companies that are in need to deliver content like Youtube, Netflix, Hulu. It won't be a content sharing in a closed circle between nodes. I suggest you to read what is a CDN: https://medium.com/noia/content-delivery-networks-101-9a476bf38f22
And how NOIA Network is going to improve this solution in our easy understandable Explainer video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-jKakIrXIk&t=

So NOIA is a CDN and not file sharing, sorry for my misunderstanding. Why do content aggregators need to go through the whitelist with NOIA Network Company and not the nodes? What if you guys allow mallicious content too be stored in the general public nodes? How can anyone trust you with their precious computer?
