First ShapeShift and now Changelly. I'm not trying to be dramatic but I want to understand, how can this be a mistake? A business must know everything related to their product. It looks like they are trying to push this idea in favor of Bcash/Roger Ver and If it goes well, they leave it otherwise, a simple tweet with an apology so once again, I don't understand how this could be a mistake, It must be done on purpose.

The only mention of it that I can see appears on just this one page.  Everything else merely says "BTC" or "Bitcoin".  Maybe a user complained to them after making a mistake and accidentally buying BCH or something?  Surely anything that makes it easier for newbies to differentiate between the two is a good thing?

As far as I can tell, the only people who seem to have any particularly strong feelings about this are the fanatics who think BTC vs BCH is some sort of religious holy war and that the enemy heathens must be smote.   Roll Eyes

//EDIT:  I also wonder if every singe post in the thread will mention Roger Ver, as literally everything that's wrong with the world is apparently the fault of this one person.  Stubbed your toe?  Roger Ver is clearly directly responsible.   Roll Eyes

Well with this debate we can go all day long. However I do think that Roger has huge impact here because he has money and is well known within businesses and he tries to push his bitcoin cash product, which is reasonable since he has majority of his coins in bitcoin cash and thus he is trying to popularize it. However I don't like this situation at all as we had few new people who mixed bitcoin and bitcoin cash and thus send their coins to wrong address, thankfully support teams are reasonable but this is huge drawback.

Not to mention that there is a fork called bitcore even so somebody might confuse with this as well.

Yes, I found it silly that they claimed that it was a mistake. Changelly or Simplex must have a connection to Roger Ver and co somehow. Glad that they are changing it now though, otherwise they will be outraged by the community.

I also read about the discussion about this on reddit earlier and one of their member/staff responded that they will fix it immediately https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/83sp8s/why_does_changelly_list_btc_as_bitcoin_core/ this is just a minor mistake from changelly because only one of their web page mentioned Bitcoin as Bitcoin core, but I'm sure that no one will get confused or make a mistake here since the symbol is still listed as BTC. No need for making big issues about it. But yeah, I also wonder who works from changelly made a mistake like this, didn't he know how to spell Bitcoin correctly. Lol https://payments.changelly.com/

This kind of missinformation needs to be exposed and people behind it need to be called out.

Over the years people always theorized about bitcoin being attacked by banks or governments, the biggest threat comes right from the industry, Bitcoin's brand being attacked by bad actors in the ecosystem pushing their own "bitcoin".

You have Bitcoin.

Then you have other stuff.

There should be no confusion. Having two two syllable bitcoins is not helpful.  Places like changelly are built for noobs and the less confusion they foster the better.

Any service should know perfectly well how fucking stupid many people are. If they're increasing the chances of stupidity then something's going on. They're not helping their own service levels with something like this.

Regardless of how they feel about anything, the first thing they should be doing is minimising the possibility of people screwing up.

I was reading a Telegram chat the other night by a guy who runs a payment processor. He was offered a large amount by Craig Wright to integrate BCH. He said he'd do it when they changed their address format for good otherwise he'd carry the can for the confusion created.

Then Craigy made dark comments about not pissing him off and he got walloped by Twitter trolls.

Well it's all about the money and always will be, some people benefit from doing this and will continue to do so in the future. It is not so hard to confuse newbie who doesn't know what has happened before and why we are moving in one direction or another one.

Hopefully they will fix everything, yeah community members don't like when some people/ companies want to play with bitcoin name because it could confuse some people and it is always good to see that bitcoin is bitcoin and not bitcoin core.

Yeah it makes sense to change it just so it doesn't confuse people, and even if some people are outraged they're still going to go ahead and use the service because it's the only one of its kind around. I wouldn't want my users losing money because I was too scared to bother the BCH vs BTC people.

So whatever, it's nothing against us.

core have been fighting heavily for their "right" to control bitcoin. they call any team that is not core an opposition.. so it seems normal for a rebrand to make it clear that core control btc..

anyone that thinks otherwise either wants to be deceitful to hide the control or has not yet seen the history or even tried to start their own team and make their own client program that has its own bip proposals and chance to upgrade the network... but history has shown otherwise. if its not the core roadmap its an opposition

I have no problem with Bitcoin Cash, open source projects are there to be cloned.  However, no one should be trying to force a project to rename by underhand tactics, if that is what is going on.  "Bitcoin Core" isn't the name of anything I hold, so if I see that instead of "Bitcoin" I wont be using that service.  If there is an official name change then we move to the new name, but not until then.

Changelly are now calling this a mistake and will correct it. Bit of an odd mistake for anyone to make, it's not as if it would be an autocorrect, but there you go.

The naming of BTC as Bitcoin core is simply to distinguish the original bitcoin to the forked bitcoins. Since they are all bitcoins the name bitcoin core was made so that the users will not be confused. Also the term bitcoin core has a specific meaning which is unique to other bitcoin versions. Anyway even though it is termed bitcoin core but the masses will still call it bitcoin and nothing else.

Um, the way to differentiate Bitcoin is to call it Bitcoin. Everything else has a little extra name glued on the end. Anyone who chooses a different naming system to that is a weirdo or has an agenda.

If we all migrated to BCH and the Bitcoin chain died then assuming there was enough agreement that would be Bitcoin. It isn't.

So, here we go, someone tweeted this picture:

It now make more sense since Bitmain, who by the way are strong supporters of Bcash, invested in Simplex.

Beginners don't know that Bitcoin Core is the name of the reference implementation and Bitcoin just the name for the network. If you call it Bitcoin Core on exchanges, beginners won't know that it's the real one. If you would do this for shares, for example calling your company BMW cars and then paying an exchange to list your company shares as BMW would be fraud.
