I just installed guiMiner, and started trying to solo mine. with v0.3.24b. At the bottom of guiMiner, it says Bitcoin is downloading blocks, and to the left it says Connecting.. In the Bitcoin client it says it has 17 connections and over 74,000 blocks and constantly rising, but under the summary tab in guiMiner it says Connection Problems next to my miner.  I have double checked all the help threads I could find, I don't know why it is doing this. Any help?
The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

I would not suggest trying to mine solo. Perhaps I am jumping the gun a bit, but I think it is reasonable to assume that you are relatively new to this whole thing.

A picture is worth a thousand words; please supply a screen-shot so I can see what exactly is going on. You may have started bitcoin before the guiminer, which would explain why you are having a problem. (In the future, remember that it helps to explain the problem in more detail.)

Btw, you might want to consider should join a pool such as slush's pool or deepbit. It will greatly increase the odds of you getting anything from your mining, and it will not require loads of blocks being downloaded by the bitcoin client before you can begin.

Everything is normal. Just be patient. The block count is currently 137,604. You cannot figure out what blocks to generate until you are caught up.

Join a pool. It may take you to 10 years to find a block on your own (it could also take you 1 hour, it's a complete crapshoot).
