Go to your data directory of the client. (ie. for Windows, the default is in %appdata%/Bitcoin). Next, just replace the wallet.dat in that folder with the one that you want to use.

You will have to specify the name of the wallet file if its not wallet.dat.

Wallet.dat files are backward and forward compatible, till now AFAIK.

In order to restore your wallet just visit this path on your PC C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin , remove the existing wallet.dat file and place backed up wallet.dat file. Make sure while doing this process you wallet client is closed, once done then open your Bitcoin Client. Yes if you download the new version client file wallet.dat will be still compatible but keep old client version too on your PC for security purpose if in case your wallet.dat don't work with the new client version or an error occurs. Don't delete it.

What exactly do you define as a 'loss' of a wallet?
Did you accidentally delete it? In that case you are still able to recover that deleted file.
Make sure to backup every wallet-file you found before messing around with them.

What kind of tokens are you talking about? OP was refering to the core client. Is core the wallet you have used?

If you used a computer program as a purse, then to restore the wallet you need to have a backup file of your wallet and know the password if you set the password on your wallet. If you have a backup of your wallet, you just need to put it in the folder with your wallet files. Come to My Computer - Local disk (C:) - Users - find the folder with your user name and open it - AppData - Roaming - in the folder Roaming are all the folders with information about your crypto-currency wallets. In this folder put your wallet file. If you used some online service to create a wallet, then you can possibly be helped in service support.

Just put wallet.dat file where it is suppose to be after reinstall. It should work no matter of the client version since keys format have never changed (and likely it will never change in the future). I also highly recommend you to encrypt keys, but in this case make sure you don't forget or loose your passphrase (don't use less then 10 symbols and known words in your passphrase since it can be guessed - best password is JCakvrIDdsj*&)(@* ).

I prefer to keep the private key. if one day i forgot my bitcoin purse. and forget where I keep all the files associated with my wallet. I can still access it by returning private key. Keeping private key in notepad or email is indirectly more secure for long term. let say in 10 years later. You can still access the wallet with only private key.

Uhm, no.

Keeping your private key in a .txt file on your desktop is not a good idea. Especially if its not encrypted.
Email is by far more dumb than a .txt file. Please realize that email is a broken protocol.
Without any security measurements its trivial to intercept/read/modify/spoof emails. Additionally i wouldn't trust all of my BTC's to a random 3rd party email server.

Please use your common sense. Those kind of 'suggestions' do lead to funds getting stolen, leading to a bad reputation towards virtual currencies.

But there are files wallet.cpp and wallet.h, which are kind of whole, that is, they managed to be pulled out completely from the damaged disk.
Question. Will I have these files a chance to restore my wallet? Maybe they have any traces of private keys, addresses or something else? Or if there is no wallet.dat, then it is already impossible to do anything at all?

wallet.cpp and wallet.h are only source files to build the bitcoin client. They will not help at all to restore a damaged wallet.dat.

If you don't have any older backup of your wallet.dat I'm not sure that you will be able to recover the file.

Unfortunately you are probably out of luck. Wallet.h and .cpp are C++ libraries and sources. What matters are your keys, that were stored in .dat file. Without those keys your funds are permanently lost. I hope you didn't lose much or will be able to find backup or way to restore file.
