Strong technical altcoins to mine

I am looking for strong technical altcoins to GPU/CPU min. Are there any coins to be advised? I prefer to mine coins that I can keep in the long run instead of trading them directly.
With strong technical altcoins I mean coins that differentiate, or use a complete new algorithm. A good example (imo) would be Quantum Resistant Ledger. Of course that one can't be mined.
I am not looking for forks that just market coins differently.

It would be nice to include a small explanation what they do differently.
