avalon 741 mining

I have two avalon 741 miners linked together then hooked up to a controller.  The one directly to the controller works fine. The one indirectly hooked up to the miner runs then cuts off every 20 min. they each have their own power supplies. the directly linked one reads 12.2 and the indirect 12.4.  Anyone had a similar issue or any idea why the indirectly linked miner keeps cutting off???

I've even tried directly linking the problem miner to the controller via its own auc3 converter but for some reason the controller doesn't start it up.  Someone please help

Does "cuts off" mean that your power supply turns off?

Could you post what is the exact power supply unit you are using with the miner?

yes i believe the power supply shuts off because i have to push the power button twice to turn it back on.  I'm using an hp 1200w psu for both.  thanks so much for your help in advance

Please try running that miner with the good power supply you have,
so you are able to figure out if it is a power supply issue.

well i must admit that seemed to solve the problem.  I feel kind of silly not thinking of doing that sooner i tried everything else lol. Thanks so much for the idea and if you have any other mining tips and tricks i'd be happy to hear them

ok sorry to bother you i thought the problem was fixed but i don't believe it is.  The miner runs for a much longer period but now they both alternate shutting off at random times. they run for maybe 45 min. to an hour then this happens any ideas?

I think you might be overloading the power supply.

Go to the Cgminer configuration page and try to set 'Voltage Offset' to -1 or -2. This will slightly reduce the miner performance and power consumption.

ok great. when i checked just now it was at 0 and i changed it to -2.  are there any other settings that you use so that things run smoothly?

Be careful with those power supplies - you are running at or above what it is rated to handle. I melted a few breakout boards with that same setup, even on -1.

You might want to  consider upgrading the power supplies .

yeah thanks i will definitely look into upgrading them. I heard they had (+-)3.3% tolerance on their wattage but ever since i went -2 on the voltage offset i've had no shut off issues. I may still upgrade to be on the safe side.

Since you are now able to run it ok with voltage offset setting -2, which means that the miner power consumption is less, I think that your PSU is not able to handle the default settings A741 power consumption.

So a good idea would be to buy a good higher power capacity power supply.

Avalon 741 is not the most profitable tool in the short term for mining. Farms from video cards on the Mining Ethereum or ZCash pay off faster. However, Bitcoin is more stable. If two or three months ago a farm from AMD Radeon RX 580 could pay off a month for 4-5, then after the reduction of the rate of the Ether this term increased.
