After a long day at work, it became a habit for me to read news just to be informative on what's happening around. Then I bumped into this interested topic which came from our local news website. Being a crypto enthusiast, I was baffled upon reading the entire body of the subject. Why such a tech giant such as Google doesn't want cryptocurrencies be advertised? We are already in the golden age of digital economy and more people became interested as time goes by. "As per Alphabet Inc's Google, they will shutdown ads that contains cryptocurrencies this coming June.
The new policy implemented will ban advertisement that are unregulated or speculative financial products.
They (Google) want to improve the ads experience across the web, and crypto related ads has become more harmful and intrusive to the market.
Even Facebook already announced to ban ICO's, it will be implemented across all platforms including Instagram"_________________________________________________________ Source: http://news.abs-cbn.com/business/03/14/18/google-to-ban-ads-on-cryptocurrencies-related-products

Such ban simply ushers crypto currency in the limelight of things. The elites are trying to frustrate digital money since they have little or no control over it as it is decentralized. However, what may occur in the near future is an entirely fresh and new development of other platforms to wholly and absolutely promote crypto currencies, digital decentralized platforms and block chain. What Google and its likes are doing is never to be part of the success story of crypto currency that has come to stay.

I read it's a moral stand against man made climate change. Crypto currencies are wasting a lot of energy right now...

I think it's good for the crypto community as most of these ads are scam ads which makes noobs fall for them, Great projects don't need ads more for advertisement, thou it affects crypto mainstream advertising negativity it also reduces victims of scam icos on a larger extent, either way it's a win win

I disagree. A blanket ban is not the answer and never will be. You can have the best project in the world, but if people don't know about it, then your project is pretty much dead in the water.

i think this ban is temporal until they find a way to regulate it and resolve in some kind. meanwhile in the field of Facebook with a similar restriction, you can still find this kind of ads

Aren't they just banning exchanges, ICOs and stuff like that? They have brought it on themselves with all their scammy offerings.
Bitcoin Talk has introduced the merit system for much the same reason.

I read it's a moral stand against man made climate change. Crypto currencies are wasting a lot of energy right now... it's possible that mining (proof of work) encourages renewable energy sources adoption in a near future. https://youtu.be/2T0OUIW89III don't think Google is worried about environment, probably there are other interests. Many phishing sites were using Google ads too, that was a problem...

Nop, check their announcement: "Cryptocurrencies and related content (including but not limited to initial coin offerings, cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency wallets, and cryptocurrency trading advice)" Source: https://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/answer/7648803?hl=en&ref_topic=29265

Its funny to see Google and Facebook, once pioneering technology companies (now large bloated corporations) act in the same way as the establishment (shutting out the new to protect itself). People are getting banned on youtube for having slightly leftfield views and the issue of censorship is arising. It doesn't matter that they do this because ways around it will always be found.

If Google really wanted to help the situation they could check who is posting the ad and the authenticity of the link very easily. This would work with phising sites. No need to shut everything down is there??

Since after the ban placed on bitcoin by Facebook, there had been a very high chance of the ban reaching other websites. But sincerely, I didn't expect google to be part of that legacy. All we need to do now is hope that the ban should be removed, if not bitcoin might suffer loss.

I think, since many ico or cryptocurrencies ads made for any harmfull and scamming pottential over there, that's why google taking care about this and ann that they will ban that ads type. But I think it's good for us, so the project allocation fund for marketing will be allocated to bounty due to there is no choices from developments to introduce their project, and bounty campaign are the great way to do that.

I assure you, they're going to shut it down not in one swoop, but one by one. I haven't seen any much ads related to cryptocurrencies, ICO's and stuffs like that lately. It only means that they are taking this thing seriously. If you happen to see such similar ads to that, only time may tell until it is being removed from the site. Since after the ban placed on bitcoin by Facebook, there had been a very high chance of the ban reaching other websites. But sincerely, I didn't expect google to be part of that legacy. These companies have joined forces due to their same goal. Don't expect that this policy will only be implemented in a single site. Google is a big loss for cryptocurrencies but there are sites that isn't being owned by it nor a partner of them. Even though they are just small sites with little scale of visitors, it will still make a difference for the cryptocurrency market.

This news is not new to us, cryptocurrencies like bitcoin have attempted to ban before and long time ago but it doesn't stop the community to continue to support the cryptocurrency world because decentralization is a form of freedom and no one can allow to suppress our freedom even the elite and wealthy can't stop our freedom. So such ban is just a temporary until such an alternative solution will be imposed.

So... Little by little, crypto is being brought down to the same level as porn, if advertisement rights are to be believed.

I think it is a bit premature to group crypto in with explicit content such as pornography. Every single google-based crypto advertisement I saw was either a scam or looked like it could have easily been an exit scheme. Perhaps Google and internet advertisers will look to rework/establish new guidelines on how cryptocurrencies will be advertised using their platforms so a large number of scams aren't out in the open for any joe and jane to be looped into.
