Is it common practice to trade between exchanges if there is say a 10-15$ price discrepancy?

I was looking at btc-e to coinbase

I tried btce.  Sort of a painful learning experience - the "efficient market hypothesis" proved absolutely correct.  OKPay charged me 5% to put money in and 5% to take it out so the difference between the exchanges turned out to be rational.
