My first Mining rig with 6x GTX 1070i

Hi all fellow Cryptonians,

I want to build my first Mining rig and i,m planning to use 6x 1070ti's 8gb and i'm still not sure wich motherboard i will use.

I'm considering the Gigabyte GA- H110 D3A, Msi Z200 A Pro or the Asrock H81 Pro BTC R2.

Also there are more GTX 1070 ti manufacturers like MSI Gigabyte ..... Are there any differances or should i just buy the cheapest version, the GigaByte gtx1070ti windforce 8gb i found the cheapest here in Holland.

Any opinions also of what CPU , RAM and harddisk to use?

GPU are the most important components of mining, but however choosing the right cpu for your mining rig is also important. When choosing the right cpu for your mining rigs, there some factors you need to consider, What is your budget? If you have a good budget then i suggest use AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X. In performance, this is the best mining cpu of my choice as it has 16 core and 32 thread processor and many more features that gives you a huge advantage on mining.And soon if in case you are planning to turn your back out of mining, you still have a good processor rather than buying a cheap processor and worth nothing in the future. But if you have slim budget, i recommend AMD Ryzen 71800X A decent priced with good performance. However if you think my suggestions is not good. You can search other threads there are plenty of threads regarding this topic. As many people are getting involve in crypto currency. Goodluck.

For the motherboard I can speak of the MSI Z270A pro as I'm using it on some of my rigs and it is my favorite mobo so far

When it comes to the different brands of the same GPU chip, the difference is mainly in the quality of the build, the cooling and the manufacturer warranty

One of the most important aspect for miners is the cooling, you will find GPU's coming either with single fan, dual fans or even triple, the single fan GPU's have usually poor cooling performances and you will want to avoid them if the environment where you operate your rig doesn't have proper cooling
As far as the brands are concerned, I've seen very good reviews for EVGA cards and ASUS Rog Strix, in the other hand Gigabyte GPU's don't have good reputation due to frequent failures that miners are coming across

I personally have four different models of 1070TI: a Zotac Mini, an MSI Duke, an ASUS Rog Strix and a Gigabyte Windforce. The MSI and ASUS are doing very well with cooling as they are both triple fans, the Gigabyte comes next then the Zotac is the worst with cooling but I still manage to keep it at 60 degrees with 45% fan speed which is not bad at all
Surprisingly in terms of performance each card perform differently, at same PL and using best OC settings I get 475 sols/s with the duke, 485 sols/s with both the Zotac and Gigabyte and 500 sols/s with the Rox Strix, that is at 60% PL

Another important aspect you need to take into account when choosing your GPU is the number of power connectors, while most of the GPU's come with a single 8pin connector some of the have dual 8pin + 6pin or 8pin + 8pin

I use the Celeron G4400 on all my rigs which was the cheapest option I had and it is doing the job very well, so no need to go fancy for the CPU
4GB RAM is the minimum and if you want to be comfortable go for 8GB
Go for an SSD hard drive, at least 60GB so that you can allocate plenty of pagefile if mining ETH

There's something critical for every mining rig that you didn't mention on your post which is the power supply, you need to be very careful in properly choosing and sizing your PSU or PSU's depending on whether you'll go for a single or dual PSU's, let us know how many GPU's you plan to operate on your rig and we'll be able to provide more advise in this sense

I have tested many mainboards which include all the mainboards you mentioned, I would like to say Gigabyte GA- H110 D3A and Asus Strix B250H gaming mainboard are my favorite, both are cheap, durable, stable and quite high performance. The only concern about GA- H110 D3A is you should check carefully about Boost option in bios setting.

For your 2nd question, I want to share one of my 1070Ti rig: 8xMSI 1070Ti, CPU: Celeron G3930 , RAM 4Gb, SDD 64Gb, Virtual RAM I set to 16Gb. And make sure you buy good PSUs.

Go for Asrock H81 Pro BTC R2, best mining mobo for 6 gpu ever created. Stable, durable, easy to setup and maintain. Integrated graphics works like a charm and there is no troublesome "above 4g decoding" option in bios like in msi z270 boards.

u can use msi H270A-PRO with G3930 and 4g RAM, my 6 cards rig is like that and it is stable as well as low cost
for 6x1070ti, a 1200w 80PLUS power is enough(about 110-120w each when mining) and it is capable for 8 cards when using m.2

Cause now not the best time to enter to mining, the diff is sky high and the profits are low, whole gpu prices arevstill high.. if it is not the option, take asus mb with 6 pci-e slots like (the cheapest) , any celeron cpu and 4gb of ram, and cheapest hdd you could find

I have 6x 1070'ti and using these:
- Motherboard Asrock H81 Pro BTC R2
- Intel G series 3260
- RAM 4GB
- SSD Samsung 128GB
- OS Win10

until now it works fine without having any serious problem
