It's really not easy to earn merit points even with good content because people with merits don't think its necessary even when they have extra merit points.

I also don't understand this

"You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts"

I read this post about merits that only people with high merits get more merits even when they don't need those merits

Theymos said - Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully. [kindly Explain this]

There are many posts with proper title and content that need to be merited but they are not getting any single merit.

Guide to Earn merits

In my view there are some incentive also for giving merits, if anyone gives merits to low-quality post then he will be punished by losing some of his existing merits points and if he give merits to high-quality post that is helpful for people then he must get a reward for this as well.

Agree. It is not easy to earn merits, but not extremely difficult, not impossible. Users can get it if they really contribute to the forum, contribute day by day, contributing continuously. I believe that merits will come to such a constructive users.
It's really not easy to earn merit points even with good content because people with merits don't think its necessary even when they have extra merit points.

Sometimes users will get merits for their high quality threads, sometimes they won't get them. One of the reason is users (especically higher-ranked users) don't have too much time to scan around the forum to find high-quality threads, then evaluate them and send them merits. Another reason is high-quality threads covered by hundreds of shitty-posts. Nevertheless, merit system will solve the problem over time. Let's wait and see.
There are many posts with proper title and content that need to be merited but they are not getting any single merit.

No, it's hard to release such a official rule like you proposed. The problem is verifying/ evaluating quality of each thread is an impulsive tasks. Someone can feel that the thread is useful, helpful for them because it helps them to solve their problems; someone else can feel the thread is non-sense because it is not highly related to their issues.
In my view there are some incentive also for giving merits, if anyone gives merits to low-quality post then he will be punished by losing some of his existing merits points and if he give merits to high-quality post that is helpful for people then he must get a reward for this as well.

This is to become a merit source

If you looked at the original post, this it what it states.

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.
 2. Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully.
 3. We will take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

I am especially eager to have merit sources in sub-communities such as the local sections.

Theymos stated this to get a larger flow of merits.
If you look at the merit stats page. There are 77 sources of merits. In total they can generate 17650 sMerit per 30 days.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=sources

We need a source for merits because merits follow the 2:1 policy, and without a constant input, we cannot have outputs anymore.

Hope this helps,

Thank you very much for your dedicated recommendations, tranthidung. I am going to try improving my knowledge, enhancing my English writing skills (because I am non-native English users), contributing more to the forum. Sweet fruits will come to deserved users, I believe.

So in other words, you're only on bitcointalk to make money.

Let me ask you this:  How is "improving [your] knowledge" going to deliver unto you those "sweet fruits" you're talking about?  That shit sounds to me like what 10,000 other garbage posters write here, about how bitcoin is the key to life, bitcoin help me support my family and my friend tell me he make fortune posting....blah blah blah".  It's all very familiar, and I suspect you're going to be competing with zillions of other 3rd world country users who are here to suck bitcointalk dry, and to contribute the absolute minimum.  Minimum in effort, minimum in quality, minimum in everything.

But hey, good luck to you.  Don't get an education, don't learn a skill, and definitely don't seek out a real job whereby your labor benefits the economy and society.  Who needs that shit when you can write stuff like
Yes. Do not panic selling because we all know that one day bitcoin will be back on its track because it is no stable so it is normal that it always dump and rise. In past pricw of bitcoin we didn't aware that it will reach a very hard cap or price so we are shocked and today that it is dumping we must take it and believe that one day it will rise again.
Took me 15 seconds to locate a post as shitty as this one.

I think it is going to be very hard for a lot of people to get merit points   a lot of people are here because they are interested in projects and wish to comunicate about that project and do not have the skills to write what is considered to be a quality posts  so these people who have been quite active will be penilised and never gain a higher ranking which i find to be a little bit unreasonable

I dont really get whats your purpose in posting this topic if the purpose of this post is for you to get some merits you will surely fail bro, this kind of topic posted a lot of times here.

It's really not easy to earn merit points even with good content because people with merits don't think its necessary even when they have extra merit points.
Yes, all of us already know how hard it is.

I also don't understand this

"You get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts"
If someone gives you 1 merit, you will automatically gain 0.5 sMerit (Sendable merit).

Theymos said - Collect TEN posts written in the last couple of months by other people that have not received nearly enough merit for how good they are, and post quotes for them all in a new Meta thread. The point of this is to demonstrate your ability to give out merit usefully. [kindly Explain this]
This is a kind of promotion by the admin, well answered by @TelevisionLover

Yes, its true but we cant do anything about it.

Not at all, its about merit abuse. If you abuse the merit system by giving your alts you get can a chance to win the red mark on your name.  Grin
Theres no reward for the sender of the merit.

Punishing members giving merits to low quality posts

This is already happening.A lot of members who sent merits in bulk like 20 merits or above for a single post were easily recognized, reported by members here and then given negative trust by senior members. Unfortunately, members are still not stopping this practice as evident from such cases being reported frequently even after the merit system is quite old now.

Rewarding members giving merit to high quality posts

What type of rewards are you expecting ? Monetary rewards or merits ?

This suggestion is not practical in my opinion as most of the merits are being given by merit sources who are already established members.

Most people will find it difficult to get merit, the fact that fewer people can get merit today. That is a consequence when we can not yet contribute to the forum. Believe many smart people in this forum and they will not be stingy to give merit. You just have to try to give a much better than what you are doing right now.

Yes getting smerit even twice a week is so hard, just like me and other newcomers member here was hard now to rank up even they have a good quality post but not to much well known in this forum. Heroe and Legendary members hopefully they are helping those need smerit and be a merit source just try to view their previous post if deserving to have smerit.
But I know it's not going to happen because they just give you smerit those posts that they laugh or are pleasant to see for them even how constructive it is.

It all comes down to the fact that life's not fair, the sooner people accept it, the better. It can be frustrating seeing posts that my 6 year old (even though English is her second language) could write with more structure and clarity, especially if those posts then magically earn merit. But what to do, the system awards the early adopters; it's basically the same as investing in the early stages of a project, except with research/time/effort instead of cold hard cash. Can't really argue with the set up.

I joined the forum around November last year and didn't post anything till a few months later, was happy enough to just to read threads on topics I was interested in. Started to get more involved in the last couple of months, and the fact that you can earn money on here just for participating in discussion is amazing. I don't know of anywhere else this is possible, although feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

On the point of merits being relevant in scaling reward distribution, it's a decent idea, just think it would be open to the same manipulation that currently goes on, so not really too different. Maybe the campaign managers could add in a bonus if members get a merit on a post during a campaign while wearing their signature, but even that has the same potential issues with manipulation and adds extra work for the managers.

Merit is really irrelevant for the forum to operate as a whole (although I think it will become increasingly valuable in encouraging quality content as the merit point windfall that was distributed at the beginning dries up), unless you are looking to rank up purely for monetary purposes. Not that I judge anyone for doing this, everyone will always be looking out for their own interests. The fact that it is hard to do is a good thing, as it means that when you do move up over weeks/months/years, there will be bigger rewards at the end of it all. Not least the knowledge that you have gained (and presumably imparted) through participating in meaningful threads on the forum.

What you say is not relevant to the bolded statement above. You are talking about merit farming between altaccounts or simply merit trading. If proven beyond resonable doubt they do get tagged.

What type are YOU expecting may we know? People dont make posts here to simply make money. They do it to help other people with their problems associated with crypto and to discuss problems, solutions and other related stuff. How the hell did you even think of "Monetary" rewards? The answer is obviously merit.

The merit sources have better judgement about who is a shitposter and who is not. Which post deserves merit and which one does not. So the suggestion is practical even if you dont like it.
