Anyway, whatever the reason of bumping threads is again more likely a case to case basis. Bumping is needed depending on the situation and usually it has a purpose maybe not necessary for you but for sure it is needed for the one bumping the thread.

Let's take this example: I believe this reply was not needed and provides nothing new to the discussion. Why should I feel another way about it? What was your porpuse when posting it? Why was it necessary for you to bump the thread?

If there was no bumping people would be motivated to spam threads, which would be even worse. It is done mostly to maintain visibility, as this is a highly trafficked forum and threads get pushed off of the first page fairly quickly, and most do not bother going past that.

Yeah? I do know that, but I don't see how it is related to my comment. We are not complaining about self-bumps, we are complaining about necro-bumps and posting to say nothing relevant

It is worth reminding members that it is against the rules of the forum to use alt accounts to attempt to bypass the 24 hour bumping restriction. One of the disadvantages of using alts is the need to ensure that you use the same account to make an additional thread reply within any 24 hour period.

Bump means only using OPs to bump. One bump per 24hours, and previous bump has to be deleted before OPs are legally able to make new bump. Keep it in mind, and nothing wrong with bump post. Delete previous bumps will keep threads as clean as possible. Because, good threads that require efforts to compose, deserve to maintain its visibility.

Bump means posting for the sole purpose of taking the thread to the top of the index, and it doesn't have to be the OP who is bumping. Hence the comments that try to reduce the practice of necro-bumping. Using alts to conceal the fact that a member is bumping is against the rules of the forum.

Bumping service is not allowed, but bump by OPs is allowed if following two rules above. Accounts which join or give bumping sevice will be nuked, as I know.
Basically, such bump posts don't violate forum rules, if posters follow two following rules.
13. Bumps, "updates" are limited to once per 24 hours.[2]

21. Old bumps should be deleted. [2]

Even though threads are been bump basically just for merits it isn't a crime as at the end of the day the thread gets more visibility which means more users read them and if it's worth some merit it gets it too.
It is not only for visibility. Because it is non-sense visibility if someone bump their shit posts/ threads. In contrast, bumping for good threads is essential to keep them alive, and won't be burried by tons of shitposts. Additionally, bumping shit posts/ threads don't help anyone to get merits.

The end goal is still for visibility buddy whether the post is a quality post, shit post or whatever you want to call it.  Typically, what bumping does to a thread is it enable more users to read them irrespective of what the actual motive behind the bump is so it's left for you to decide whether a post is a shit post, average or quality post because to the OP's every topic they start is a quality one. Also there isn't a rule against bumping shitpost so when you see one use the report to moderator button and wait for moderators to make the judging decision.

I mean shitposters have rights to bump their shit posts. If they got reports, they will get reports on their original shitposts - as spam, not bumping posts (if they don't bump their shitposts more than once per 24 hours).
Bumping makes more sense if authors bump their good posts (for visibility), because without bumps, their good posts will be burried under other shitposts and shit bumps.
