Have you ran

Code:
sudo apt-get install python-qt4 python-pip

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

best I can offer, I have only just started using linux.  Electrum installed without a hitch on my recent fresh install of 13.10

Not to butt in on your thread, but how is 13.10? I need to upgrade my thinkpad and have not liked an Ubuntu distro better than 10.10. People are saying that 13.10 is the best yet. Is that true?

EDIT:

It seems that 13.10 has slowaes

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+package/python-slowaes

Here you can see how to install the package http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/core/saucy/universe/base/python-slowaes

$ sudo apt-get install python-slowaes

Thank you so much!
