Didnt think the current DAG file was over 3GB. Last i checked it was 2.37GB.

Use "-eres 0" on claymore for ETH, after the dag file gets too big, switch to other ethash coins like Ubiq, Ellaism, Expanse, Musicoin, Pirl and Metaverse.

Win10 allocate 20% VRAM, and dont just the 1st card, all of them. If you have no more than 4 card downgrade to win7. Win7 dont handle more than 4 card, but dont allocate VRAM, and you can mine ETH about next year april or may with 3GB card.

Eth is dead for 1060 3gb as window 10 seem to reserve over 600mb of ram on the cards. Just wondering if there is a way to prevent windows from doing that.

is the memory reserved for all cards? From what I see on Linux, only the first card is getting close to the limit, the system doesn't use additional memory for them.

13 GPU Nvidia Rig running under Ubuntu 16 (eth hash rate: 300+Mh/s @ 1000W for whole rig): 3x EVGA GTX 1060 3Gb (24MH/s @ 65W) + 6x MSI Armor GTX 1060 3Gb (24MH/s @ 70W) + 1x MSI GTX 1060 (24Mh/s @ 65W) + 3x Zotac GTX 1060 (24MH/s @ 65 W). PSU 2400W, Asrock ASRock H110 Pro BTC+, cheap Chinese risers, Kingston SSD 120Gb, 8Gb memory. Selling some of my GPUs (around 200€, still under warranty), if you're interested, contact me in private.

Yes. Windows does that on all cards.

If you're using Claymore, make sure you have enough RAM in your rig (8gb+ physical RAM) for ETH mining. If you have less than 8GB, make sure you set your virtual memory within Windows settings to 16GB+. With the latter, make sure you have enough free disk space on your SSD/HDD. Failure to do this will cause significantly less hash rates and can cause issues when creating the DAG.

Thanks for this. I was using Phoenix and ran into the memory error even though I boosted the page file size already. Some windows update screwed things up.  This worked for me using Claymore.

It will break in 1-2 weeks. That's a temporary patch so you can get your sh*t together and install something else.
Windows Server 2016 and Linux is the way to go if you want to mine ETH with 3GB cards.

no. Windows 10 takes +600mb from the 3Gb but not Windows Server 2016 and Linux.

maybe a stupid question, is there no way to put this additional memory need on the onboard gpu and leave the other GPU alone?

13 GPU Nvidia Rig running under Ubuntu 16 (eth hash rate: 300+Mh/s @ 1000W for whole rig): 3x EVGA GTX 1060 3Gb (24MH/s @ 65W) + 6x MSI Armor GTX 1060 3Gb (24MH/s @ 70W) + 1x MSI GTX 1060 (24Mh/s @ 65W) + 3x Zotac GTX 1060 (24MH/s @ 65 W).
