Is it just me or has the hashrate just had a MASSIVE surge?
Last half hour...

13 blocks found...
The previous 30-minutes periods had between 4 and 7 blocks found (should be 3, but with higher hashrate it's understandable)
Just my observation... Luck?

Its just statistical noise. On average, currently a block gets found every 6-7 mins, but it can be 6 seconds or 60 minutes too. And of course there is no reason you cant have several of those in a row. It will happen. Here is what I saw a few minutes ago (edit: heh, same sequence you posted) : Thats not to say hashrate isnt going ballistic, because it clearly is. Its quite literally off the charts: http://bitcoin.sipa.be/But you need to average several hundred blocks at least to get a meaningful average.

Here is a good chart showing the variance you get with 16 blocks: source: http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficultyAs you can see we have already had sequences that would correspond to 8+PH, but that doesnt means we are close to it. yet

Damn, this thing is surging big time. I wonder what will be the cause of its eventual crash in hash power? I'm thinking hackers or zombies.
I wisely got out of BTC and went to LTC when I saw the difficulty rising from 11 million to 20 million, not that long ago.

Yeah, it's what I taught, but it looked kind of strange, seeing all those blocks in a few seconds apart However, the thing that confirm it's just noise is that those blocks are coming from different sources/pools. I made a transaction just before, and it confirmed very very quickly It would be a bummer though if you would make a Tx during a "low", from your wallet to your favorite exchange site, while BTC is crashing

I'm thinking hackers or zombies. Well, the one good thing of ASICs is that BTC will become zombie-proof. A well crafted zombie could well start hundred of thousands GPU miners, but even that is making less and less of a dent, and certainly not doubling the hashrate In a few months, the only thing that will me mining BTC will be sub-28nm ASICs. The rest will be like computing Pi to 1 million digit with pebble and sticks...

If the zombies rise, no one will give a rat's ass about BTC or money of any kind. It'll be a free for all take what you want scenario. Although I think I'll still find and keep several million dollars in cash because I always wanted to have a lot of money.

Everyone would die including you, its no use of BTC or money This is the biggest LOL of them all! I would never go down in a zombie apocalypse. It simply could not happen, I an far too awesome to be common zombie. I'll be on the roof getting BOOM HEADSHOTS with my Ruger 10/22. As has been told in zombie movies and TV shows, I'll be in that less than 1% with a natural immunity to whatever causes people to become zombies, and they won't ever catch me to bite me either. I'd be EPIC in a zombie apocalypse, although I'd miss my internet porn when the system eventually goes down.
