My name is Gabriel G Rojo and I represent GDN Internet, the company that owns 4K.com. As you may know, 4K is the next TV standard that will replace HD.

GDN wants to get into bitcoin and we think that maybe someone in the Bitcoin scene might have some interest in acquiring this asset. The domain has been registered since 1996 and it is one of the few 2-character domain names that exist today.

Details:

  • Starting bid is 40 BTC.
  • Please post your bid in this thread or send me a PM.
  • Escrow is mandatory. Buyer could choose between John K and BTCrow.

Closing date: Nov 15th 2013 at PM 11:59:59 PST.

Buy-it-now price: 900 BTC. This would close the auction immediately after receiving the offer.

If you want to verify my identity you can send an email to the contact address listed on the whois service (http://who.is/whois/4k.com).

Auction starts now in this thread, thanks.

Best regards,

Gabriel

Wow, great domain!

Why is buy-it-now price almost 2 times smaller than the one listed at 4k.com? And the email is different. Just curious how you plan to handle 2 auctions at a time.

Until Nov 15th 2013 there is only one auction (this thread, priced in bitcoins). We did not promote any other auction, however we receive bids in our email almost every week and we cannot stop that.

Now the buy-it-now price in the homepage has been changed to 900 BTC as in this thread, thanks for the heads up.

I did not see that OP recommended Escrow.
OP is very kind, and if no one place a bid, I will place a bid at last minute.

johnscoin, for this sale escrow is mandatory with John K or BTCrow. The escrow service will check that the domain is received by the new owner. (Also I have been a user here for 6 months now, please check the registration date.)

Thanks.

Oh, wow, you fixed it fast. I would place a link to this thread also.

such domain is usually only worth no more than 1000 USD.

I doubt you can buy a nice 2-letter domain name in .com zone for 1000 USD. But if you can - please educate me how you can do it.

Added a link to this thread from the homepage as bitcoinator recommended.

Regarding prices for 2 char .com domains, I agree with bitcoinator and teek. You can check a list of .com domains for sale at Sedo.com, here is a brief list for sale there:

   yo.com   3,000,000 EUR
   en.com   2,750,000 USD
   jz.com   1,800,000 USD
   bu.com   1,000,000 EUR
   wt.com   1,000,000 EUR
   ke.com   1,000,000 EUR
   fe.com   1,000,000 EUR
   yw.com   1,100,000 USD
   od.com   1,000,000 USD
   jk.com   780,000 USD
   rf.com   600,000 USD
   xa.com   200,000 GBP
   dz.com   300,000 USD
   tj.com   250,000 USD
   d5.com   225,000 USD

In addition, 4K.com represents an emerging technology.

Thanks for the comments, please don't hesitate to contact me with any additional questions or requests.

Has OP in any way shape or form proven he owns this site?

This definitely should be an escrowed deal.

At least he controls the mailbox and the site itself (http://4k.com). And as stated in the original post, he insists on escrow, so I don't see how this could be scam. Maybe I am naive and there is some sophisticated scheme?

Thanks chsados. As bitcoinator mentions, you may check the following to verify ownership:

  • Visit www.4k.com. I placed a link to this thread in the homepage. You can also email to the address listed there.
  • Check any whois service and contact the registrant shown there (it's myself, I will respond confirming)

Finally, I will be in the San Francisco Bay Area during November and I can meet the buyer/interested parties in person to sign any legal paperwork required.

Thanks again and best regards,

Gabriel

Thanks IamRichard, you are now the highest bidder.

One day left.

Important note: as someone suggested by email, if there are bids during the last 5 minutes of the auction, another 5 additional minutes would be added to the closure time. This provides a level playing field between the current highest bidder and someone that tries to outbid him/her in the last few seconds of the auction.
