I saw something freaky in stats  => Most Time Online :

In the first place : hmblm1245  =>  2078d 7h 59m
So his total time logged in is close to 6 years ( 5.83 )  and the date registered of this member was on : June 20, 2011, 12:13:13 AM

He/she stayed 84% online and his last post was on:  May 24, 2016, 09:09:27 PM

Probably not. Some people use bots or auto-refresh tools etc so it will skew their actual logged in time considerably.

You can imagine that because it is a stat which is tracked that there are going to be people proud to be at the top of the list when it comes to those things. Therefore, there may even be certain people that compete at staying online more than anybody else, and like hilarious said they are more inclined to just leave auto-refresh scripts running or at the very least their browser stays open. I'm not sure if it automatically stops counting you as logged in if you are idle, or how that is calculated, but there are also people that tend more towards lurking than posting. These people will have more online time than would seem normal for the amount of posts they output.

I would only consider it a bug if they had more time online than possible, for example more time spent online than has passed since their registration or since the inception of the forums. Outside of that, I would consider it something closer to determination.

Only if someone gets his hands on your cookies. If that happens, your computer is compromised anyway and you have more things to worry about.

This seems like a waste of bandwidth for someone who's last posted almost 2 years ago.

I've used it shortly, when lolgato (@Rollin chat) was spying when I was awake through Bitcointalk.

I've seen some type of uber private persons who try to confuse people regarding their timezone.

So, staying always logged in would make you always have the "green online box" next to your profile and then just post at random times.

But I it may just be for someone to be #1 in a tracked statistic like you guys said.

I think that this is the following case: "Most Time Online" parameter counts while until the authorization cookie expires (I think it is called PHPSESSID). If you check "Always stay in" the cookie life time is 3153600 min (or 2 190 days) Smiley
That's why it is not a bug.

P.S.: I simply collect HTTPs logs via F12/Network in IE 11.

Hi. First of all you sholud logout from forum. Then go to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=login. Type your login/pass, check "Always stay logged in" button. Press F12 (work in IE and FireFox, not sure in Chrome), go to Network tab. Press green arrow ("Play" button  Smiley) and in previous window press "Login". After that you see the netwrok log. In the first line there will be autorization request. Double click on it and look for cookies.

Sorry if I violate the rules of the forum. However this information will be usefull.

You are wrong. Autorization cookies and session are the same objects. To get them, you need to know login/pass. Or find them...in Internet, for example (or 123456  Grin).

Just imagine if he or she leaves his or her account on his computer since the start time of his account, it is likely more he is on office work where in they uses internet the whole day, and he can just log-in his account and just leave it like that, the time will just continue even his not making a post.

Only if someone gets his hands on your cookies. If that happens, your computer is compromised anyway and you have more things to worry about.

I always have this strange fear that someone has easy access to my cookies and I obsessively clear them out almost instantaneously and constantly. I never save any log-ins or allow excessive cookies. I do not allow them to sit on my computer for longer than necessary. I might have a paranoid approach, but it seems to be working so far.

This seems like a waste of bandwidth for someone who's last posted almost 2 years ago.

Not that much bandwidth though, and it's not like you can squirrel away your unused bandwidth for future endeavors. Am I wrong?

When someone has access to your cookies, he has access to all your user files. I assume you keep more data on your computer, and don't delete everything, right?

I do not delete everything, but I meant I have a sneaking suspicion that my cookies are more easily accessible than my user files for some reason. Although again, you may very well have put more thought into the subject than I have. Is there no way that someone has access to my cookies and not the rest of my files?

Anything worth keeping safe is encrypted, so even if someone has access to those they wouldn't be of much use without cracking some tough encryption. Maybe I am naively feeling secure, but I don't know what kind of encryption/security cookies are using. At least I know what's going on with my user files.

I meant a waste of forum bandwidth.

That is quite a different story, then; I don't know why it feels like I'm constantly failing to consider something so simple or completely misunderstanding what is being said. I gotta get my act together.

How can we see if how much time someone stays on the forum, because when I click their profile it only shows the general information of the user!?

Used to be in the "Show general statistics for this member." section but it was disabled. Now the best you have is your own statistic, bragging amongst yourselves, and checking the statistics center: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats

This one looks like a bug of bitcointalk system. Please spend several minutes to check it
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=258817
The mentioned account has current statistics as 10 posts, 10 activities,100 merits, and Newbie position. That's strange like a bug.
I guess (and I think it is right) that the account was sold recently and new owner wanted to make a new profile by deleting all old threads.
The rank of the account before selling is Full Member (that explains why it got 100 merits, which seems to be allocated automatially in January when merit system launch).

I propose Theymos to make a change to the forum system. If someone delete their old posts, their ranks and their merits should decrease too. It's not fair if a Newbie got 100 merits for nothing (particularly if the account was sold and violates the forum rules).

I guess (and I think it is right) that the account was sold recently and new owner wanted to make a new profile by deleting all old threads.
That's very unlikely: why would anyone buy a Full Member account just to reduce it to Newbie again? Accounts are mainly bought to earn from signature campaigns, reducing the level makes that impossible again.
That leaves the option that the original owner has - for some reason - deleted most of his posts.

It's exactly as (un)fair as the Full Member who originally got the 100 Merits. Nothing changed there.

Selling accounts doesn't violate forum rules (but will likely earn you red trust).
