Recently, Facebook has been caught misusing their clients data. Cambridge Analytica, a data firm, has gotten access to over 50 Million private Facebook accounts. Private details of peoples’ daily lives were leaked to corporations.
It’s not just Facebook. Corporations have huge amounts of data about us, and even if they don’t misuse it, hackers could get into their databases. This shows why we need crypto and decentralization. Decentralized systems could prevent a lot of this in the future.

This is a fact. Because if you try to examine those emails in your email address inbox, those messages pop ups an dother things in which you did not subscribe or anything. Facebook actually is big company and they are also making income by selling or giving data to other corporations. |

decentralization is the best concept I think a data is not centered, and not united by one side, hopefully with this incident many open eyes.. |

In years past, the public had more control over how their personal information was shared. If a household their name and address delisted from a phonebook that option was presented to them. With the introduction of the internet, that precedent was abandoned. Today its not difficult to obtain someone's personal information via background check or personal information sharing websites like intelius.com which charge a fee for giving out other peoples key info. This precedent may contribute towards identity theft and other negatives. Facebook is unfortunately only the tip of the iceberg as far as data mining goes. It might do well for the state to intervene and introduce mandatory regulation which guarantees people an "opt out" option as well as introducing stricter and harsher penalties for the abuse of personal information. Data sharing is one area where regulation could have a good potential to bring about some positive change. One might say better regulation of information sharing has the potential to do much more good in the world than bitcoin regulation. |

It was really a shocking news to hear.It reminds about Assange who said that Facebook is the biggest spy machine in the world.Also,we should not forget that even google is said to share datas to the US government.By this way,it shows that our privacy is in great danger and we should be cautious in sharing our personal and confidential details.

When I first read this news my first thought was to short Facebook stocks and not for the short-term. The more and more of these scandals there are it seems logical that people will eventually make a stand against these things. Facebook already has a longer life span than the average social media platform and if they keep spying on people and allowing others to do so then it's not going to end well for them. The real question becomes, are Facebook and those in control too powerful for such a thing to happen? Not to mention, how many of these such scandals do we not even know about yet? I bet this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Whether the report is either legit or not the biggest business in Information Technology(IT) industries today is collecting data whether it is personal,political,commercial or any other data that is useful to collect from its competitors or any rivals. Social media and other internet based services are susceptible to data mining. It is us the users are most of the victims of data mining being vigilant does not guarantee us that some of our data are being leaked. Once we are hooked on this online world there is no doubt we are closely monitored by other agencies.

Facebook is a great business but very easy to intervention by local governments or the global elite, now the facebook team has acted recklessly by dissecting the privacy of others. So, it isn't strange if this networking site will bear the sin and abandoned by its users.

If you study marketing or advertising in general you will learn that data is vital for their targeting. I suggest some of you guys read the filter bubble. Every time someone uses a "free" app or game related to or not to Facebook you give up rights to use it.
For example,
you download FB on your phone. In return you get to use the app but you give up tons of your data to use the messenger app. That data can many times also be requested by 3rd party apps or games. Those apps may not have highly secure data centers as opposed to FB. Even if they did, data is being sold all over the world for fractions of cents for each persons records. Probably not the best case but regardless if your info is online just assume it's being sold unless you use highly secure stuff. Which there probably is ways like vpn's not being signed into facebook or google etc. while browsing the web.
Anyhow, it is a good reminder of why privacy crypto is the future. At least that little buckets of information won't be tracked or sold on the market like credit card transactions are at the moment to other credit card vendors. Just look at the opt in or opt out forms you get when getting a credit card. You can only opt out of so much...
FB screwed up pretty bad.

Yep. Decentralization of everything would be best. I think that there are few icos for decentralized social platforms and I predict that after this scandal they should become really popular. Anything that goes against few heads in control sounds good to me, it feels terrible to be a puppet in this world and to know that the government and other top coorporations can tell the brand of the underware I am wearing right now. It sucks to have no control over our personal information and have it sold so we can be manipulated.

I agree with you, this is bad news about facebook, and if it really happened, its impact on facebook users, facebook users will decrease because people think facebook is not safe. Facebook did take a huge hit because of this their stock fell significantly. Some paranoid people are saying that Facebook sells data to NSA and such, don't if that's true but you can never to sure. IIRC Edward Snowden also accused Facebook of the same. |

That is one of the problems here, privacy of our personal life is one of our basic fundamental rights given to us by our constitution without it our life would be owned by someone else. If Facebook is caught guilty with what they are doing they must have a penalty internationally and must pay compensation and damages to all of the persons whose accounts are affected. I wouldn't be surprised is Facebook is also monitoring us with our mobile phone's camera, the possibility is there folks and we don't have the ability to reveal it.
