I recently bought a chromebook.  It uses google OS.  So its much different than windows.

I know that its possible to install linux on it as i read about this.  Thought i have never done something like this.  But i wanted a separate laptop to do things like stream tv shows etc while not using my main computer.

I no longer have btc on my electrum but have it on my nano ledger s.  I was told if anything happens to my nano ledger, you can always type in the 24 word seed with another ledger or use the electrum program itself.  What i want to know is, there are no issues downloading electrum or electroncash on a chromebook if you download linux on it correct?  I believe no cryptocurrency wallets support just google chrome right?

Another thing i thought about.  But since nano ledger s uses google chrome, does that mean i could actually use the nano ledger s with it?

The thing thought is im using it with my windows laptop.  The thing is this chromebook will be used to stream sites such as tv shows and cable tv and thus if any virus i get on this computer, i don't mind as i would just wash it as i believe thats the term for chromebook.  Thus its possible to get a virus from a windows computer if you are not sure of that site when streaming.  However since its a chromebook, there should be no issues with it right?  And even if somehow the chromebook get a virus which i read is hard, then its still safe to connect the nano ledger s into it right to move your btc or access it with the nano ledger s?

No, I don't find any electrum wallet that supports Chromebook OS as of now only 4 OS are supported. Linux, Windows, OSX, and APK or android OS.

If your OS is linux yes you can download the electrum and install, but if you download the electrum as chromebook os it's not a compatible OS.

I don't think ledger nano could be detected in the chromebook OS because I think it needs a driver first to able to detect the device.

Everything could be possible we can't guarantee that the google chrome book OS is 100% safe. Look at the MacOS they said before that this OS is safe, but right now they release an antivirus due to some people experience malware and viruses.

You can try to test it first if you had your ledger nano you can test it now then if your nano is detected might be the ledger wallet in chrome browser will work, but the electrum will not work.

By what I read on the internet,Chromebook is using " Linux-based Chrome OS as its operating system",so you should not install anything.Logically you can use Ledger Nano S with Chrome app in a same way you use it on Windows. You can also try to download Electrum on Chromebook, since it is Linux based OS maybe it will work.

You need to protect any device with antivirus+firewall and keep an eye on what you click and what you download.Since you use Ledger you should be pretty safe and your private keys are not exposed to external factors.

I advise you to not complicate things more than you need.

You can install APKs on Chromebook using Developer mode
https://www.howtogeek.com/260075/how-to-sideload-an-android-app-from-an-apk-on-a-chromebook/
You can try this as Electrum does have APK version but no words on compability yet, care to try?
You might also want to scan your Chromebook for any virus, there are rarely virus on Chromebook as the demand to crack it are low, but you can never be too sure.

This dude from Reddit managed to use his Ledger S on Chromebook successfully
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/6y374u/support_of_chromebook_please_ledger_nano_s_and/

If this is too hard or time consuming for you, I'd suggest to buy an old Laptop and put a new windows copy and use it solely for Wallet Smiley

Did you or did you not install Electrum on the Chromebook?
I own one myself...before I go through the hassle it'd be fantastic to know it'S gonna be successful.

Thanks

Chrome OS is a very restrictive OS. But there are guides on the internet on how to install another 'real' linux os, like this one I found (https://lifehacker.com/how-to-install-linux-on-a-chromebook-and-unlock-its-ful-509039343)

Once you have it installed, you can go ahead and use electrum (or ledger nano s for that matter)

Thanks for reading my post.
