I've got a Pi with 4 Dlink DUB-H7's with 3A power supplies. Running minepeon 0.2.3a. My PI is hooked up to my lan, not wifi. From my pi, 1 usb hub is plugged. From that hub, 3 more hubs are branched out, and are filled up with 7 miners in each, 21 total. One of the hubs, all miners work. the other 2 hubs, every other miner works. I've tried unplugging them, plugging them back in, re-flashing the sd card and starting from scatch. It's always the same. One hub works 100%, and each and every other hub, every other miner mines. 3 miners mine, 4 dont, and always every other one.

Any ideas?

Not enough power! These things should power 6 miners with 3A of power, but for whatever reason, they aren't. I found a way to hook them up so they all run. The first usb hub can give the other 2 a little extra juice if you use the labeled charging ports to bridge the other hubs off of.

I found a 5V 4A power supply on ebay that should drive these things up to warp speed on ebay. Not sure how long this link will be valid. If it's dead, just google "5v 4a power supply", or what ever you're looking for.

Don't expect your hubs to power 7 miners on 3 amps of power! 3.5 amps is needed for 7 hubs, perferabaly 4 amps.

When I look at the PS for my D-Ling 7 port it's claims to be 2.5 amps.  That's why they run 5 miners.  The Rosewill 520 10 port well run 8 miners.  I'm working on converting a atx psu for a 30+ amp 5 volt supply.

you put to much through you could fry the hub...

been using this one on 70 sticks with HW errors around 1%. The cheap 10 port hubs are actually mining with 10 ports http://www.ebay.com/itm/-GENSSI-5V-40A-200W-Regulated-Switching-Power-Supply-FAST-FREE-SHIPPING-USA-/171123409781

No, not at all.  The amount of available current has nothing to do with it.  A hub well only take the amount of current the asic's require.  My 10 port Rosewill hubs run 10 miners, powered by the 5v rail of a atx psu, rated at +5v/36Amp.  I've seen some cheap import hubs that can't supply 0.5 amps per port because of a cheap surface mount fuse that blows, 10 ports needs a minimum of a 5 amp fuse yet some cheap 10 port hubs have 3-4 amp fuses.

There's a thread someplace that shows how to change these surface mount fuses, fairly simple but you need good soldering skills.

ask anyone whos amped up the amps through a cheap ass hub theres loads of picture the components simply cant take it and most melt from there being to much current going through them. usb hubs take what they need but the cheap ones dont realise there components cant take it heat up and blow or belt. im not saying this always happens as it varys from hub to hub but im just saying theres a risk and it CAN prove to be a fire hazard..

So I should disconnect it from my car battery?   Wink

it dosnt really matter on that side its how much power goes through the little circuits inside the hub. on cheap hubs the little circuits can get hot when to many usb ports ask for to much power which can fry the hub circuits or worse melt them creating a dangerous short

also car batterys are 12 or 24v so would blow all the miners and the hub as there probably 5v but if its a 12v hub then you could run it off a 12v car battery
