I do not see a place for suggesting them, or for a process to implement them.

However, it would be nice to see a handful of more forum categories to be able to easily discuss more topics.

  • General Coding - PHP, Java, Mobile Development, etc
  • Technology - Windows, Linux, Mobile, upcoming, builds, etc
  • Gaming
  • ETC

I really don't think there's enough demand for these boards. Bitcointalk also doesn't have to have sub boards for every possible topic.

I could potentially see a subforum/category about gaming. I'm not really a console gamer anymore, but I'm pretty big into PC games and mobile apps, and quite a few people that I play with are big into crypto. As we near the releases of true blockchain/crypto gaming platform/ecosystems, I can see the need for the gaming sub here. I don't see it in the near future, although I'm curious to see what developers like Chimaera plan on doing (press release) as opposed to the half-assed crypto-based games we've seen thus far.

Other than that, I agree with you.

Off topic is probably fine for gaming related matters for the time being. Just because people have an interest in both gaming and cryptocurrencies doesn't mean that there needs to be a separate section for it. It all my years being here I can't remember too many discussions about gaming and it was normally just off topic discussions about a certain game or asking an opinion about the game.

I never said that it needed to. But allowing a broader band of topics to discuss instead of lumping everything into a single forum is much better. There are plenty of users to the point where it could be used. Not to mention, there are a lot of developers as well. Being able to discuss code, best practices, etc, would be beneficial.

Well, demand is needed. A lot of these boards are covered by other forums anyway. This is a Bitcoin forum and isn't some sort of discuss everything. That would invite the wrong people in and people who just want to discuss random things other than Bitcoin. Many people were against the idea of having an altcoin section, but at least that's related.

The coding section would likely be people looking for help, and that can be done elsewhere. If it's related to programming and integrated a API then that actually fits here.

It's not much better if there's not much demand for them. If we have a sub board with only 4 topics in it it's useless and that's why they're only added once there is clear demand. If Off topic was constantly being swarmed with topics about coding or games then there would be demand but at the moment there really isn't.

Yes there is a potential that may someday be applicable. Many games will utilize blockchain technology and now also have started many game developers who recognize the existence of Bitcoin as a thing that is needed in this era of technology. And I think also that the thread about technological development is also a thing to be considered, We know that digital currency is one form of technological progress, we can not separate the digital currency with technology.

It may take some time and consideration, but I will also continue to support what this forum will do. opinions will be very important because with an opinion then a thing that can experience the process of development towards the better.

Wait, were you talking about coders in general, or Bitcoin/crypto project related coders? Don't forget that the name of this forum is "Bitcoin Talk"... I don't see the need to create non-Bitcoin related categories here.

I don't know why you bolded the statement you bolded. It's a general blanket statement that doesn't need to be emphasized. And I haven't encountered "many game developers who recognize the existence of Bitcoin as a thing that is needed in this era of technology", and I'm a gamer that RSS's to many crypto newsfeeds. When you make definitive statements like yours, it'd be good to leave references along with your post. Otherwise, people are going to be inclined to consider posts like yours shit, just like I did.

HF has 1/3 the number of members, yet 3 million more posts in 3x as many threads. Their basis is, you know it. Yet, there are categories for Gaming, GFX, etc, which have millions of posts not related to the topic of the forum. The base is that you provide an area to keep users on the forum for an extended period of time. It's not about spam, it's about keeping users on the forum and engaged.

Instead of those, I think we need a new section called "Newbies", where all newbies can write the typical topics related to merits and stuff.
Also, It can be the only place for them to write, just meanwhile they become JR. Members. I find it will help much more the forum rather the ones you suggested, just because currently the merit system and the high number of incoming newbies are making messy too many boards, I feel we need to put some order.
The ones you suggested... well, I just don't see such a demand from the users as the one I mentioned.

I do agree with you. Newbies should be limited so that they're not unnecessarily posting in forums. It's always a problem on discussion boards.

Newbies are not the only ones who contribute to spam. Why punish users like @nullius, @Blue Tyrant, and @Toughit, who are some of the recent incredible newbies that we have had on bitcointalk that have contributed so much already?

This is a Bitcoin forum and it has plenty of informations and discussions more or less related to the main topic, adding such general topics section would be a further distraction to forum's users.

I disagree with such suggestion, there are so many others forums where you can find discussions about the topics you said.

It has done alright retaining members. You know, with over a million registered accounts, and all. Members aren’t going to go anywhere if new forum subs are not introduced. Quit being so melodramatic lol.

All of your suggestion can easily be a topic in the off-topic section or even another forum, to be honest. Because for software development, there's (probably) not enough people to participate so if you're into that, you might better be off to some other forum that focuses on that.

Instead of those, I think we need a new section called "Newbies", where all newbies can write the typical topics related to merits and stuff.

I may be wrong but there is a section called "beginners and help"? and judging by the name, I'd say that's for newbies. Grin
