Despite the fact that women played a key role in the development of modern technology, the digital domain is a disproportionately male space. Recent stories about the politics of GamerGate, “tech bros” in Silicon Valley, and resistance to diversity routinely surface despite efforts of companies such as Google to clean up their act by firing reactionary male employees.

The big tech story of the past year is unquestionably cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. So it’s a good time to look at how cryptos replicate the gender politics of digital spaces and where they might complicate them.

Just more third wave feminism nonsense. Software development is mostly open source nowadays, in Bitcoin everything is open sourced, therefore anyone is welcomed to put their code on it, it just needs to be good enough. Turns out most people making BIPs are males, if there were females writing good code they would get the cred for it. One of the main developers on lightning network is a woman and there's also a black guy in there so all these people that say crypto is only about masculinity and the white race and some asians get proven wrong. If you are good enough you can make it.

I agree with this, just because an industry happens to be male dominated, doesn't necessarily mean it ought to be qualified as male-centered industry or space. Anyone could dive in and do this.

Even when the article is interesting, I believe we just can't base our judgment on those who are the most "visible part" in the crypto world. There are women involved in the new technology as well as man, but if there are fewer women maybe it is just because they are less interested in technology. I don't see the crypto world closed to men, or "men only", as the article suggest. Besides, I know many female crypto-programers, as well as crypto users. The famous faces related to crypto are men? Ok, so? I just can't see the point.
Crypto world is open for everybody. I work with both male and female developers, and we have no problem related to it. Women, as men, have the same position, as long as they want to be involved. I just think most of the women are interested in other stuff, but it doesn't mean they are incapable of being excellent on crypto. If there are more men involved it is just because there are more men interested. That's all.
Now, people showing guns and so... well, the same as usual. Many men believe they need to handle a gun in order to reinforce their tiny masculinity. But this is just another pathetic act from another pathetic person, and this is not directly related to crypto world.
