Are you serious that this $2k bike can beat a $100k+ car? Then what the heck is the point of a car if a bike is more fuel efficient + faster?!

Bikes will blow most cars off the road, mostly due to their high horsepower to weight ratio. A motorcycle will weigh around 350-450 pounds, and can have up to ~250 HP. That's a lot of power and very little weight to haul. If you want to keep up with a liter bike you'll need 900+ horsepower for a 4,000 lb car. For example, a Ninja 650r (not a liter bike, only a two cylinder 650cc), which is mostly geared towards commuters/new riders, has a power to weight ratio of almost 350 BHP/ton, with "only" 71 BHP, because it only weighs around 400 pounds.

Bikes can't keep up with race cars though, F1 cars and super karts and the like, they don't have the traction nor the aerodynamics. 4 wheels +downforce wins in the end.

As for the point of a car, most aren't concerned with being the fastest thing on the road. Fast enough is usually fast enough, leave the racing for track days.

I used to have nice toys once.  No one respects them. You'd need to entrench yourself in a special community and build walls around you.

Bought a really nice car right out of high school.  Someone intentionally slammed into it on the first day.  Learned the true meaning of 'haters'.

Also, aside from some people feeling more protected by the 'cage' of a car, the level of tinkering knowledge tends to be higher for bikes than cars.

Also, side-note but the mod started it OP! Bikes are heavy, I'd love a 1000 but I can't hold the weight. The 750 for me Smiley

To get back on topic, here's a nice little hyabusa engined motor car:

Lotus originally but Caterham bought up the rights to build them in the 80's (iirc) and have been tweaking and improving them ever since. I think Caterham builds a factory Hyabusa engined version but all the parts are available for a bolt in installation too, the superlights and 300's are pure nutjob machines but the Hyabusa powered ones are quicker on twisty roads/tracks.

Aye, I can imagine though I don't know much about Caterham. I would love to see a Hyabusa engined Lotus build actually... especially on a twisty road  Cheesy

One holds the trackday lap record on the only racetrack around these part (mondello park), its a poxy tight track but some fairly exotic stuff shows up. It was originality a true sports car used for everything from tracks to off road trials, put on a lot of weight (and rigidity) since then but its a near perfect layout so still does very well where power to weight matters most.

Those had ford engines, another 1960's ford engined lotus v a 2013 corvette (not watched it yet btw Wink )
EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYMFrFBfm7U

Ha nice, maybe in another 30 odd years more american cars will be able to corner Tongue
Lotus are pretty genius when it comes to power to weight and sticking to the ground. [Just made me think of the Lotus Lada.]

This is a nice car thread. Do not mention Ford.  Lips sealed
