There have been dramatic changes over the past couple days and hours, let alone months. It is a great investment, and you can use Bitcoins to "play the market" if you exchange them for altcoins on MCXnow.com

You just have to watch the markets and trade the right altcoin at the right time, then cash out for Bitcoins.

I wasn't showing any particular set of prices.  I was just linking to the bitcoincharts website.

When you click the "Charts" link at bitcoincharts.com (as I did to quickly get a URL), it defaults to MtGox pricing. Once there, the user can choose from many different markets.

If not, what pricing source should we be tracking?

There are many places to Buy and Sell bitcoin, each of them have their own prices based on various factors.  MtGox is the highest.  BTC-e is lower.
