I need some help figuring out what is wrong with my mining rig right now and I am not sure if this is the best place to post about it. I hope someone can help or redirect me to the proper thread but here is the problem:

I was mining with 2 asus 1050 ti with claymore and had no problems but I got 3 more msi radeon rx 550 for the same rig and put all the gpu's on risers. Now only the gpu in slot 1 is being detected by claymore. All gpu's fans are spinning but I am not sure were to start for trouble shooting besides the basic check the risers and power supply to the risers.

Please help!

Does your Device Manager detect all of the GPUs or are there errors? Did you download drivers for your newly added cards?

I did download the drivers but let me check if the device manager is detecting them at all and let me get back to you.

Can you describe how many watts PSU its?
Have you tried to reset bios via CMOS?

First of all, you have to check if you have connected all the risers and power to risers - correct!
because there were a lot of cases, that people inserted risers incorrectly or forgot to connect power to risers
and the best way to find out what goes wrong - connect the card one by one

First go and edit your bios settings. The risers expand to pcie x16 but those tiny parts where you put them are generation 1 so you should change pciex to x1 from auto. That solves the problem almost always, I am an It and I know this by experience. Also if your mobo supports it enable 4g if your mobo is of new generation.

If there's a problem with his Power Supply, the rig will not boot at all.
But still, there's no harm on telling us your PSU's brand and Power Rating.

This is pointless, resetting the Bios doesn't always magically fix problems.

All GPU's fans are spinning means that the PSU supplied them enough power to start.
Either the PC can't detect the cards due to bad riser cables, PSU cables, bad riser or the problem was caused by claymore miner's settings misconfiguration.

Start by (any of the two):
  • Swapping undetected cards to the working Riser slot and insert the working card to the undetected riser.
  • Read claymore's thread and some documentations about it for the proper configuration.

Im sorry to say this man but of the risers ive ordered online maybe 50% works. They are often made in china with very poor quality and not even tested before shipping. One would almost be better of ordering the components oneself and soldier it on.

Risers are all produced in China but there are different number like 0006 up to 0010 the S letter after it means it has all possible connections, from Sata, 6 pin pcie or 4 pin molex sata. The later the number the better the riser. Just a google search would have told you that. Next time buy 0010 risers and they will work like a charm.

Okay so update.

Sorry this took so long to get back to everyone but I had to get another thumb drive to run the OS on because the other was too small and I am working full time and going to RN school atm.

That said.
The device manager is detecting 4 of 5 GPU's right now. 1 of the MSI radeon cards is not being detected and I am assuming it's a riser problem so that I will sort out right now.

The problem now is getting cuda to run with the cards that are detected in the mean time. Right now it only runs the 2 nvidia cards even though I have the drivers installed and device manager sees the 4 working cards ( minus the 1 that isn't seen right now).

Is there a command I need to write in the start.bat file inorder for them to work together or should I just run two different versions of cuda for different coins? Say etherium for the nvidia cards and Zcash for the amd cards.

First go to devices manager and look how many gpu enable and look to view hidden drivers, if there is hidden driver ( in gpu section ) , you must back to the setting bios make sure your iGPU and PCIe work together, because sometime they can not work together, so that's make one of gpu will hidden. If that so, you must choose use PCIe to external monitor.

Okay I will give this a try tomorrow after class.

I did get cuda to start mining with the 4 gpu's by manually changing the virtual memory under : advanced system settings > performance settings > advanced tab > change button > then unchecking the automatically manage pagin file size for all drivers

the problem now though... it crashes... anyone know what do here? Or should I change it back to automatic and the bios changes?

What is your system spec?
(HDD/SSD size , virtual mem set to ? , PSU wattage/brand ? how you connect the risers gpu's to the psu , what is on 1 rail ? System mem size ?)
What is in your bat file ?
What is in your claymore log file ?

Including the post above ^
What is the Coin/Algorithm you are currently mining?

The problem is, you just provided us limited information and you immediately going for the first few replies.
Please provide us the complete information so your rig's issue might be resolved in one-go.

In continuation to this: (excluding the 1st one which is presumably resolved)
  • Swapping undetected cards to the working Riser slot and insert the working card to the undetected riser.
  • Read claymore's thread and some documentations about it for the proper configuration.
Which of these "Claymore Miner" is the one you're using: list of miners created by Claymore?
Because some are only capable of detecting Nvidia (CUDA) Miners, not together with AMD by default.

Is there a command I need to write in the start.bat file inorder for them to work together or should I just run two different versions of cuda for different coins? Say etherium for the nvidia cards and Zcash for the amd cards.
If you are using: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v11.6 (Windows/Linux), you can. Just read the whole thread.
