This is just one of the common problems here. Many people here (not just the newbies) keeps on bumping on an old thread. Even though the OP was already answered well by some other members, some of this bumping situation lies on the economics section. I think this is already considered as spam.
Are the mods of that section considers that endless spam of those people as a valid reply/comment? We know that it's not necessary to that but still we're seeing this shits all around the Forum. And foremost the REPORT TO THE MODERATOR, as I think, doesn't really works on there well.
How can we even blame those posters if the mods aren't making a move to limit every threads like those on "that" section.

If it doesn't bring anything new to the discussion and is repeating what has already been said in the thread then it's likely spam and should be reported. If they are bumping a topic which hasn't had a reply in a few months and aren't adding anything new to the discussion then this is also a reportable offense.

As long as it's spam then the report to moderator should work and it should be dealt with eventually. There may be a delay depending on who's on at the time of reporting it. The moderators deal with spam elsewhere on the forum quite consistently so I don't see why it would be any different in the economics section.

We all know that the authors of these threads must lock their post as long as they have been answered but yes, it's still the mods duty to secure those from spamming. Then I suppose that the one who must be blame here are the authors right? They're the ones whose starting the problem for spamming and bumping.
As we can see that economics section has the most bumped threads and together with the marketplaces as second as I refer.

Then are you saying that many members here in the forum should be reported? Because the reality is we are the one who is mainly responsible for creates large-volume threads and megathreads up to the extent.

I think there's nothing wrong if lots of replies are existing in a thread as long as your reply is not plagiarized at all because you are only expressing your own idea about the topic. If there is the one who made certain lapses, that would be the creator of the thread for not locking his thread after getting the answer he is searching for.

It might be your opinion and I'm not disputing that. But, if you aren't bringing up any new points then what's the point of posting it? Opinions will overlap and that's fine, but when they are literally putting the same point across but, worded differently then that's no better than just posting "+1" which was a trend a few years ago. Possibly, in a few instances an opinion might need reinforcing via other people but, not to the degree that we see in these mega threads.

Blame the creator of the thread if you like, but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of people don't even read the replies on the same page of their reply let alone the other pages.

Then are you saying that many members here in the forum should be reported?
If they are spamming, yes. Doesn't matter how many people that does spam it's still spam and should be reported. It's only natural to miss out a few when there's so much of it going on and the moderators aren't to blame for that.

Megathreads by definition are a thread where there is a lot of replies and messages in that thread (in most of the cases are repetitive post), CMIIW. By this definition, I don' think we can blame the OP. But of course, they are irresponsible when they don't close their own thread after it has been answered. There is no harm reporting a lot of members as long as it is the right thing to do right?

I think there's nothing wrong if lots of replies are existing in a thread as long as your reply is not plagiarized at all because you are only expressing your own idea about the topic. If there is the one who made certain lapses, that would be the creator of the thread for not locking his thread after getting the answer he is searching for.

Plagiarizing is not the only thing that is violating the rules, spamming is there too. So even if you have the same idea just like the others, posting it, again and again, is a violation too. Even if it is your own idea, what's the point to say it again if somebody else already saying it? Why bother to do so?

As Welsh said, a lot of people don't even bother to read a few pages or even a few posts above them. I've seen a lot like this where a post conveys the same message like 2-3 post above it, mostly in bitcoin or altcoin discussions section and my local board.

We all know that the authors of these threads must lock their post as long as they have been answered but yes, it's still the mods duty to secure those from spamming. Then I suppose that the one who must be blame here are the authors right? They're the ones whose starting the problem for spamming and bumping.

I think both the author and the posters should be blamed. Even if the author did a mistake, what makes those thread full of spam were literally those who keep reposting the same message over and over again.

I think spam is not the highest priority to moderator as they have to solve lots of technical issues and lots more important things around, some bot can post spam in thousand per hour, that will just too much to manually try to understand the subject if it already properly answered and then delete the bump message, even in hundred per day would be very difficult work to do.

Those who don't like their board topic listing littered with bumped thread should use the Watchlist and Show new replies to your posts rather than complaining about this and that being spam and then open probably already hundred of topic related to this low importance discussion, probably the reason moderator going against spam is just because of people's complaints, why don't just use this Watchlist and Show new replies to your posts facilities to avoid having to go through the unwanted topic shown on their topic listing and free moderator from involving themselves into spam control and low importance job.

I'm not sure that this is the case, well I sure hope not! But, judging by the reports that I make and how they are dealt with the staff do indeed care about spam and deal with it if reported, and likely delete hundreds/thousands more spam posts before anyone reports them.

I don't think there's many more important things either. Obviously, Admins and Global moderators have a lot of responsibilities other than what is seen by the public, like cyrus dealing with the recovery of compromised/lost accounts or a few global moderators deal with private messages that have been reported. But, again most of them would be for spam purposes. I'm sure that certain members also have other responsibilities which aren't coming to my mind right now but, for most staff members around here the majority of their work likely comes from spam posts or posts which have been posted in the wrong sections.

Again, I'm not sure where you are sourcing this from but, why do you think spam is considered low importance and moderators are against dealing with spam. Yes, there's been multiple discussions about spam and there's probably no need of all these discussions. But, complaints get results. A lot of people complained about spam prior to the merit system and it's likely what made theymos implement it, or if he was going to implement it anyway then it likely made him do it quicker than he would of if there wasn't any complaints.

Watchlist can be useful, but it doesn't stop the fact that there might be multiple spam posts within that thread that you are watching.

In first sentence you mean about the trashcan threads right. Because of that post count getting lower. I hope that does not do any problem to us. Dead thread bumping is happening widely on Bitcoin discussion, Service discussion, Economics, Speculation and Trading section.
There is lot of new updates and things to discuss in these section but people started using these boards as a spamyard. that is why moderators trashcanned the redundant threads in these places.
Hope theymos take against the spam threads more stronger.

Report to the moderator works pretty well. I had opened thread about adding new mod because there is very annoying threads with a lot of posts.
Btw as hilariousetc told me, just report it and I'll take care of that.
Those threads are bumped by signature campaign spammers in order to post much since they have no fantasy and try to look smart while in reality they show high level of stupidity.

Necropost is a real deal for spammers and trolls they are just waiting for the right time to attack in every possible way they can, and forum is originally the father of this word when someone post on a dead thread especially in this forum where every post count even if they were not contributing fair enough they just thought oh well just give me free money by shitposting your project ultimately it will be a long term if they necrobump the old thread with the shittiest post someone could have ever seen. If you put some necrobumber in your ignorelist along with the user who started the thread it will drastically change your view of this forum.

That is why it is always advised to lock the thread when the sole purpose of it is met, we must be responsible how we use the forum by locking unwanted thread to be bump again, moderators were busy too.

I put the necro-bumpers on ignore. I'm not sure about the OP though, some of them are valued members of the forum. The advantage of putting the OP on ignore is that it greys out the title in the index. It would be nice if we could ignore threads without ignoring the thread starter.
