I'm still trying to figure that out.

I remember I read something about this a while ago. It was a post or an article about the random patterns.

It is like when you choose 6 numbers out of 100, you almost never choose "1-2-3-4-5-6". Mathematically, these numbers have the exact same chances of being picked as "34-50-12-9-66-90" by the random algorithm.

Isn't it weird?

Yes, it is. And if we know about this oddity we can try to utilize our knowledge. Yes, "1-2-3-4-5-6" have the exact same chances of being picked as others, but if we choose from this range we have much less chances of the jackpot being split(in the case of our winning). This is a good example of how we can increase the potential prize in purely luck-based games.

I can tell you that doing signature with just your ref doesn't bring in too many people. I have tried that before and it does work, it does bring a few amount of people, like maybe 1-2 people and that depends on how active you are in bitcointalk as well, you need to constantly write even for that.

Really depends what you say and do, if you started the 'Hodl' thread then you'd likely get a ton of referrals from your signature that way.  I tend to see rough viewing figures sporadically because I post charts sometimes and it depends on where or when you post, if you are the last post on that forum page then its quite possible less people see you and it can be that simple.    If 100 people see a post then 1 might click your signature if you are lucky going on my prior short lived youtube career that'd be about how hard it is to get actual user clicks.
