About 600 computer servers used to mine bitcoin were stolen in Iceland in a series of large-scale robberies in December and January, according to police.

The servers were taken from data centres in Reykjanesbær, near Reykjavik airport, and Borgarnes on Iceland’s west coast.

About 10 people have been brought in for questioning, and two Icelanders in their 20s and 30s are being held on suspicion of involvement in the thefts, a police spokesman for south-west Iceland told AFP on Wednesday.

He suggested the thefts could be linked to organised crime, saying: “Everything points in that direction.”

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Well, as it happens I do not understand. Such a protected system is the same. Of course, I understand that many systems, even the Pentagon, can be hacked, but still as such a large number.

Makes you wonder who was behind it. There aren't many places on earth where mining bitcoin is financially worthwhile. Iceland is one of them, so I kind of doubt that anyone would move the servers somewhere else unless they were that dedicated to not getting caught. Wonder if it was someone with the technical knowledge to actually use the servers or someone trying to sell them. Or both.

It only aggravates the atmosphere, and does not give a good effect.
I see the market is very bad and very sensitive to negative issues.

Exactly. I cannot help to notice the number of troll accounts that are currently out posting old, negative Bitcoin related news and even blatantly fake news. It is all designed to scare weak hands out of their Bitcoin. I wish I knew who are paying them to post the hogwash.

Theft is very harmful and the police are working well, and it's very disturbing bitcoin mining, I think we should give security to bitcoin mining sites or we can use the services of security guards.

I already read this article before and made me what is the point of getting the servers without the hardware part of it or this is just a crime against bitcoin.

This is fake news.

No robers have enough time, trucks, or man power to unplug, and transport 600 servers.  LOL
That would take about 4 semi trucks to move 600 raw servers without packaging.

Total lie.

Link to the article please? How can atleast ten people do such a crime so flawlessly? They should have had a hard time carrying those computers in a single event. I feel sorry for whoever owns the mining site. Lesson learned, security should be also a top priority when you have these kind of business because the threat is very intense.

Thieves are now smart, they do not steal any more money but they steal a tool that can make money. For a moment I was wondering why they stole the server? So I think that the thieves understand the technology and want to steal data from the server. The criminals alone know how the prospect of blockchain technology to the economy, what the government still does not want to accept the development of this technology?

I'm sorry to inform you that this has been reported already weeks or even months ago so I don't know what your intentions are of bringing this news in the front page again.

I'm sure that those who have been caught has undergone court litigation for stealing those computers. Its a petty crime and I don't think this is relevant to this day. Do you think that they stole those computers to mine bitcoin? or just make money by selling those computers?

Regulation means centralization. There is no need for regulation. Regulation will only make it easier for them to suppress and manipulate prices. To give you an idea of what's going on: https://medium.com/@super.crypto1/4th-dimension-bitcoin-manipulation-cartel-can-it-be-burnt-no-way-c53de65c166a

What we need is decentralized crypto-based solutions that for one don't support off-chain trading and/or transactions. An environment where it will be impossible to use the promise of Bitcoin to suppress and manipulate prices through derivatives such as futures and options.

We also need people who are prepared to help set the record straight.

This is old news and fake, i dont think it is possible to locate such numerous servers, do you think the owner of those computers are dumb enough to place it into one location? Without securing it, Can you imagine how much electricity it will use and cost? Very dubious, i smell an alt account here, trying to post unsolicited posts just for the sake of having a post. Clearly misleading too, it will somehow affect the readers and bitcoin users, be vigilant guys.

Any government will do the regulation and finance is the object.
I almost do not find the meaning of decentralization in my country, and crypto is new and considered dangerous here. A good solution to continue to socialize blockchain technology.

This is old news. Why entertain it again?
It only aggravates the atmosphere, and does not give a good effect.
I see the market is very bad and very sensitive to negative issues.
and some people take advantage of it.

Exactly. I cannot help to notice the number of troll accounts that are currently out posting old, negative Bitcoin related news and even blatantly fake news. It is all designed to scare weak hands out of their Bitcoin. I wish I knew who are paying them to post the hogwash.
They are whales. they always managed to create panic.
there should be special regulation to deal with this. News lie should not be disseminated to this forum or to social media.

Any government will do the regulation and finance is the object.
I almost do not find the meaning of decentralization in my country, and crypto is new and considered dangerous here. A good solution to continue to socialize blockchain technology.

As long as it doesn't mean that the majority of people will call the shots, because the true spirit of cryptos are not to have a majority that terrorizes a minority (or vice versa). The true spirit of cryptos are to level the playing field in a decentralized, peer-to-peer manner. That being said, acceptable forms of socialism can certainly benefit from cryptos and vice versa.
