Is there any sign that Ethereum will create a fork similar to what Monero has planned?

I don't see how Ethereum can let Bitmain release ASIC's and not do something about it.

i don't see a reason to fork for ASIC. i mean, PoS is just there. we are nearly the coins that Vitalik wanted , 100 million, so why develop a fork if they can just apply PoS and crash it all to hell???

I think Vitalik will announce PoS in the next two weeks.

BTC no more than 6k by end of 2019. ETH no more than 300$ by end 2019. Huge market manipulation, huge amount of scammers and hypers.

Yeah I don't think a fork would be worth it for Ethereum since they've been planning to slowly transition to PoS for quite awhile now. I just expect that this will speed up the transition process.

Yep no point of forking off if Eth goes to POS soon.  Just mine etherium classic or create a fork for etc thats asic resistance,  Or just mine a different coin and auto exchange it for etherium.

I asked Vlad Zamfir, he said good question and retweeted these... so you could leave your opinions there and he and other devs will see them.

Even better, he just posted a Poll... please VOTE on if you would like a hardfork to eliminate ASICs (and give your opinions in the comments)  (Not a proposal... just an opinion poll)

From the last developers meeting, they have not agreed on implementing the 1% POS model in the 2nd part of the Metropolis hard fork where it was originally planned. It seems the developers are more focused on implementing sharding first. According to what was discussed there may be multiple gradual forks, rather than a single fork that is riskier for the network.

One thing for sure is there is no rush to implement 100% POS, given there is no guarantee POS even works at this stage. In next developer meeting on April 6th there will be more discussion regarding implementing a timeline. It would be interesting to see if they also discuss ASIC feasibility.

Not sure what would happen to ETH if it went  POS?

All those miners abandoning it, what would the trading volume be?

Vitalik is a fraud, and Putin's puppet. We are simply a decade away from truly decentralized POS, and 10s of thousands of hours of research from the smartest mathematicians in the room.

If ETH doesn't protect itself against Bitmain's scam after all these news, It will lose whatever is left of its current market share to cardano and in a few years It'll be completely forgotten. It is still not too late to do something but seeing that Eth devs are very unresponsive to the recent events makes me wanna think that they either don't care or they are in the same bed with Bitmain. Having an ASIC resistant algo is a feature of ETH, why aren't they informing us like Monero devs did?

too many amd miner crybabies, crying that they can't mine eth anymore, time to grow up, adapt and move along.   You knew your rx470's, and vegas, can only last for so long.

Next time join team green

Even if Eth stayed  with gpu your still only making less than a $1 a day after electric per gpu,  Be glad you got asics that can earn you a bit more then some couch change.

EVERY Eth mined by thousands of antminer F3 used in Bitmain giant farms are certainly sold to dump Eth price and buy "bitmain friendly" coins like Bch.

So it's simple if Eth does'nt fork it will feed Bch

the lack of responsiveness from the eth team is foolish. they don't care of us. ... a poll on a twitter  Roll Eyes damn.. the fork should be already prepared and date ! look at monero => quick action... eth : slower than my grandma
good bye eth .. i will dump you soon... for xmr hin hin  Wink

The rough timeline given last year was for the 2nd part of the Metropolis fork, Constantinople to implement 1% POS blocks and 99% POW blocks by the 1st half of 2018, with a switch to 100% POS by the end of the second half. Neither of which is looking to be likely at this point.

It seems a little late for a fork, here's why.
We all know Bitmain is currently mining with the machines before they open them up to the public.  The real hurt would to do random forks before we catch wind of Asics coming out.
If you fork after it just hurts the miners albeit Bitmain's profit from selling used goods.

No, they would be pretty badly hurt in the medium/long term. From now on everyone (coins) will watch for big hash-rate increases indicating hidden new ASICs on them. Hopefully they (the coins) will prepare for that.

ETH fork will deliver the message of a giant anti-ASIC wave. They will think twice before investing in developing new ASICs for any algo. End of business model to me.
