No idea where this thread goes, (mod feel free to move)
Winter is coming, It's getting cold a nights here in the UK.
I have a cold bedroom and normally put on a 500w convector heater on over the winter.
How can I turn this into mining power?
The problem is, I need to sleep, so GPU's are out, I cant afford to put in a KNC (maybe the smaller one but cant
find any or anyone that will tell me if this generates some heat.
Maybe BE's? their cheep, but I would need a large bank of them to generate some heat?
Ideas? Looking for something available now.

CPU coins,
Primecoin perhaps, you can solo mine or pool at ypool.net ( there are other pools but i cannot comment since ive never used em )
If you would already be paying the bill for the heater then yea, makes sense to try and make some cash too ! With the correct cpu coolers, ( self contained water blocks for cpu are cheap these days) next to no noise !

Good idea, To further this point, What about Water cooled GPU's? I could alt coin mine? I'm guessing this would not generate alot of heat tho, Water cooled units are cool by design.

CPU mining aren't hot enough, you should do some GPU mining instead, just undervolt and reduce the fan speed to about 40%....

I only suggested water cooling as OP said he didnt want alot of noise. I have 3 boxes (one watercooled, 2 not) and they produce enough heat to warm the room ( also in uk ) but its not my bedroom so i dont care so much about the noise !

GPU and CPU have weird smell which might affect your brain. Don't do it..

It's a little late I think. As regarding the pic, I actually don't like strawberry's. I think food should be on a plate. Squirty cream is all ways fun tho!

No weird smell for mine, anybody else have it?

No weird smell for mine, anybody else have it? No weird smell but it is dried air and it is hard to breath, but is different with water cooling

No weird smell but it is dried air and it is hard to breath, but is different with water cooling During my span of GPU mining I did not have any detectable smell, perhaps your cards are running dangerously hot? I always kept my GPUs under 65C. Note that any kind of heating done directly by electricity adds sensible heat to the air only. (at a rate of 3.41 BTU/hr per watt of electricity consumed) Running electric heat can reduce the relative humidity of the space because as temperature increases; with no additional moisture relative humidity drops (see Psychrometrics on wikipedia) But yeah, this doesn't change with water cooling, you're still adding only sensible heat to the air and will have the same affect on the air conditions in the conditioned space, the only benefits are lower silicon temperature at your CPU/GPU and lower noise due to the increased surface area and lower speed fans.

i keep my cards runing 80 C, why keep them at 60 when u can get 40% more from them and u have warranty

GPU mining is the best.
I have two 5850 mining Litecoin in my bedroom
I have replaced the coolers with some Arctic Cooling Mono plus which are very quiet and keeps the cards cool, but the room still gets warm during the night time hours.
The cards themselves are quiet the problem now is the PSU fan is the loudest. xD
But not so loud that I can't sleep. It is actually soothing to hear a deep hump for the fan.

of course mining for heat isn't going to be an efficient way of heating, but maybe you could make a sound proofish box for the GPU miner?

If you feel weird smell from GPU mining, do not overclock your GPUs, or decrease cgminer aggresivity

than air can not circulate and gpus become hotter and hotter

My 8 jalapenos and 39 BE's keep my bedroom quite comfortable, I have a few more pieces of hardware on the way that will contribute to my comfort
