My 8 jalapenos and 39 BE's keep my bedroom quite comfortable, I have a few more pieces of hardware on the way that will contribute to my comfort

any anoyable sound they make?!

Yes but not much for mine, depend on how small and how close you are to it.....

Maybe i'm not a HE, LOL  Shocked

I have herd some good points about BE's, I can get 49+ hub for less than 2 coins, Surely this will give off some heat? I know it's only 16GH's but I will put them soloing with my other 5 sticks and run my own lottery.  Grin

Or a blade might be better as it does not need a computer, I have Ethernet in the room, So this would be easier to run. at a little over 1 coin for 10~GHs, Might need 2, not sure how much heat they give.

i have one antec 300 in my bedroom with watercooled 5850 highly overclocked with a rad on top of the 140mm fan. runs silent on all fans set to low.

another antec 300 in my living room with two 5870s overclocked also with 140mm rad on top and 240mm rad inside two intake fans. it runs a bit louder but gives out much more heat.

No idea where this thread goes, (mod feel free to move)

Winter is coming, It's getting cold a nights here in the UK.

I have a cold bedroom and normally put on a 500w convector heater on over the winter.

How can I turn this into mining power?

The problem is, I need to sleep, so GPU's are out, I cant afford to put in a KNC (maybe the smaller one but cant

find any or anyone that will tell me if this generates some heat.

Maybe BE's? their cheep, but I would need a large bank of them to generate some heat?

Ideas? Looking for something available now.

Use back your heater, it is cheaper since you already have it. Mining wont get you much anyway

I'm mining Nova/Litecoin and XPM just to heat my apartment. Haven't turned the heat on once and my electric bill is still sub $50 while I mine ~$70-$90 a month

I'm guessing this would not generate alot of heat tho, Water cooled units are cool by design.

Water cooled units are no less hot than their air cooled counterparts.

The heat is just redirected from the fans into tubes and eventually a radiator.  Plus there is no fan noise other than the radiator.

Put that radiator inside your room instead of outside your window, and it will heat.

You could even get fancy and get 2 radiators (one inside and one out), put a flow control valve and you can control the heat it produces inside.   Smiley

My electricity went double after i change my heater to mining rig. Looks like heater is better at heating Smiley

I suggest keeping the heater you have because it won't cost $5000. But if you don't mind losing lot's of money.

The KNC is a perfect choice as it is 1 Watt/1 GHZ. A 550 GHZ Jupiter would be 550 Watts. It would put out 50 more watts than the heater you already have. And would heat quicker as it has a fan dissipating the heat.

I've run BFL jalapenos and singles as well as Avalon minis.

The noise gets on your nerves, believe me. I've got fairly large rooms and can't bear to be in the same room as them. I finally figured out a solution by putting them outside in a waterproof sheltered enclosure. The outside temperature ( < 5C ) keeps them cool and keeps the noise away.

I'm losing the heat (which really is what you want), but there is no way I'd keep from losing my mind if I were to hear them constantly.
