low electrcity cost - gpu mining worth it?

Not worth it unless you are already heating with electricity.  If it's cold, why not run some GPUs?

Well basically. I live in Norway it is fucking cold in winter anyway. If I could have the gpu running constantly to stop the pipes freezing rather than the radiator on that would be awesome. Also there no need to factor in the cost of the gpu because I need to buy a new one for gaming anyway (I am running apu at the moment).

The main point is if I am just paying a tiny amount for the electricity because it is divided by 7ish people and I get a 100% of the LTCs will I be out of pocket?

You might be able to eek out a tiny profit if you ignore the fact that you are forcing everyone you live with to pay the extra expenses.  Kind of a dick move.

Unless you are already heating with electricity even for heat generation, mining is less efficient than other heat sources (gas, wood, etc).

Haha yeah it sounds like a dick move. It isn't because I don't spend that much time at home and I have to leave the heating on anyway to stop pipes freezing. Everyone else uses the dryer and washing machine and what not shit loads ... i hardly ever use it :S. So it was an idea i had to make the whole splitting the bill between 7 people fairer lol.

Hey if heat is you want, get the 5970 instead. It has great BTU/watt heating output. Though it's noisy in 100% fan speed, in winter you can trim it down because of the temperature.

Also yeah you'll get free electricity in the end and also you get some few extra NOK. for that.

No.  You get more juice out of a USB miner stick.

USB miners are cheap now-a-days. You can get them for $10 pretty easy for 333 MH/s.

He is not asking for power savings, neither is he wanting to generate heat, neither is he asking for ASICs.
He is asking 2 things: 1) which card should I use?; 2) is there profit to be made?

A personal advice: I regret purchasing a 7870 and should have got a 7950. That's just 400 Kh/s instead of 650+, for a ~50€ difference, let alone the resale value. Get a 7950 or wait for a 280, if you can.

I bought a pair of used 7950 cards off eBay about 8 months ago, mined the shit out of them for 6 months doing LTC, then sold them for a few quid more than I paid for them.   The LTC converted to BTC, which I just sold for £300.
