There is already a 'fee' built into the system. If you send 1 merit to a user they only have 0.5 so they need two merits to be able to send one, thus they will run out of merits pretty quickly. There's nothing you can really do to prevent abuse other than punish those who are caught doing so. If you decide to try cheat they system it's a very big risk because if caught your account will be tagged and ruined, thus it is better to just try earn merit naturally.

Correct, there is a 0.5 merit amount subtracted, but it's not a fee, from my understanding, because this amount is just hidden and will be returned back as soon as this user will get merit from someone else. I was thinking about the real fee, destroyed amount which comes with giving merit.

Shouting in all caps won't do you any good.

If you want to 'earn' merit, then yu need to step back and review your posting. 'merit' is one of the most used words in this forum at the moment, and yet you still don't know how to spell it. It things like this that lead people to think that you don't care about your posting.

Also, some of you guys need to learn the difference between merit and sMerit. You can't give away merit, and there is no loss or fee resulting from the award of an sMerit ( other than the sMerit of course).

I have explained to him what the reason is in a private message but he has blocked me.

The following is what you sent me:

Why do you sent me a negative trust?
I have only 22 merrits and you have more than 1000 Huh? Why do you do this.
Please remove my negative trust
IF I WAS ABUSING THE MERRIT SYSTEM I HAD NOT 22 MERRITS !!!
Why do you sent me a negative trust?
I have only 22 merrits and you have more than 1000 Huh? Why do you do this.
Please remove my negative trust

with best regards,

NLcar

I asked you something, if you are a man than you give answer !!! Why ARE YOU GIVING ME NEGATIVE TRUST YOU FUCKING IDIOT I HAVE ONLY 22 MERRITS AND YOU MORE THAN 1000 DO YOU WANT ME TO SET A WAR WITH YOU Huh?

PLEASE REMOVE MY NEGATIVE TRUST
My answer is this:  You are an obvious shitposter; are probably an alt of Zandar; and you're obviously abusing the merit system with him.  There would be no other reason someone would leave you merits unless it was an alt, or a "friend", or was otherwise being traded  Same thing with the Zandar account.  In fact, Zandar says you two are friends in real life here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3162720.msg32983811#msg32983811, so it probably really is a buddy of your you're trading merits with--and not because the posts are merit-worthy.  Hence, my feedback.

If you think TMAN, Jet Cash, Foxpup, digaran, nullius, or anyone else is an alt (or a friend) of mine, you are free to leave a negative as you see fit and I won't complain about it in the least.  But I'll be the honest one here and say that I don't know any of them in real life and that there was absolutely no talk, arrangement, deal, or anything else between myself and anyone whom I've given or received merit from.

I have respect for these users, and I tend to like what they say.  End of story.  We travel in the same circles on bitcointalk, but my given and received merits are not a case of friends "helping out" one another; nor are we shitposters; nor am I, at least, getting any benefit by receiving merits.  There's no more ranking up for me, and I've made it clear that I'm making it a point to hand out sMerits to lower-ranked users.  I've given out a lot, and the vast majority did not go to any of those users mentioned.

Why I must believe you and write to me "if you think" I am not thinking, I know it !!!
You are still writing and acusing me that I am probably an alt of ZANDAR, do you know you are a SHITPOSTER too and A FIRST CLASS SHITPOSTER ??
I have explained to you that Zandar is a real friend in the real world, we live in the same country but he lives in a different town !!!
SOOO YOU SHITPOSTER !!
and than you write " There would be no other reason someone would leave you merits unless it was an alt, or a "friend", or was otherwise being traded" that is the most SHITPOST I have ever seen in this forum !! you still acusing me that he is not a friend of my and stil acusing me that he or I am an alt and acusing me of trading ?? what A SHITPOST
THE PHARMASIST here is the best post of me, better than all your posts before:

I am may be not a good poster but I am very good in my job and if you want to know what my job is you can only guess.
- If you want in this forum only and only quality posts, the forum has to remove 90% of all the registered users.
- if this forum removes 90% of the users the forum would be worthless because the users who writes "shitposts"are reading the quality posts too
- if this forum removes the "shitposters"wich the pharmasist calls - your rank would n be worthless too
- the new merrit system has made that much users left this forum and much bounties are stopped
- What you do is now destructing the forum with your haunt and shitposts, but you are using other alts to give a negative feedback or post the "proof" but you are fooling this system
WITH YOUR SHITPOSTS !!

Hi all. I was reading about all the merit related topics for some time, for the obvious reason.

I found there is such a thing as merit abuse, when highly merited users create alt accounts and give them merit, trade merit or exchange merit back and forth.

Wouldn't it be cool to treat merit as a sort-of-currency and a "meriting" as a transaction which requires some fee? Say, to give 10 merit you need to pay 1 merit fee and this fee is going to be destroyed?

What you think guys?

This is a tough one, but this will really change the game. Merits will increase their value and it is much more hard to get one and reward one even though the person getting a merit is worthy to receive one. It would be hard for the one rewarding the merit. Yes it can be a prevention, but it will cause risks. It’s much better to just report people abusing it rather than letting others suffer the consequences.

The place here has actually become a snobish bully club, and more and more are leaving the forum due to this. The problem is high ranked people on their high morale horses pointing fingers are meanwhile doing the exact same thing they accuse others of but do not get any repercussions from it since they practicly 'know' all of the other hero members etc.  Since they have more merits to send they easily spread their merits around so it doesn't show up when given it a glance but does when you look properly, here look:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3162720.msg33010310#msg33010310

And none of the other high ranked members want to meddle in it out of fear of starting a negative trust war among themselves, so they pretend to not see these activities of the high and mighty.

and more and more are leaving the forum due to this.
Oh NOOOEEZ!!  If only that were true, because only the scammers and merit dealers and account sellers and shitposters would leave because of a DT issue.

And I would note also that I have seen older members leave the forum because of the quality of discussion has deteriorated in the past few years.  I think KWH was one, though he seems to be back.  If you look back at how good it was in 2010-2012 roughly, you'll be amazed at how bad it's gotten.  I don't know when signature campaigns were conceived, but I suspect that the decline started soon after.

So if that's your argument, that we're losing members because they think there's some sort of powerful discussion board cabal, I would imagine that's going to fall on deaf ears.  Good riddance.
