Would anyone be interested in me hosting a minecraft server for us bitcoin forum members?

Could be lots of fun Smiley

I'm interested as well. I already have a private server for friends, and they can be annoying to maintain.

Personally I enjoy the classic Minecraft, no mods or free server hand outs. I think it would be great if we had a BitCoin Forums Minecraft server. It's less of a headache to run without mods, so might be easier on you. I have run minecraft servers before and I'd be happy to help in any way I can. Planning on running it on your Desktop or having a dedicated server for it?

I've got a dedicated server, plenty of horsepower Wink

And I'm a fan of classic as well, mods are irritating Tongue

You know what would be an interesting mod (and way to fund a server)? Have the server require registration, with some database holding user information. Each user is given a Bitcoin address, to which they can send Bitcoin. The server can then use this money to fund operations, and the user gets the equivalent amount of in-game Bitcoin. This can be used as a medium of exchange in the Minecraft world. Essentially, you're donating to run the server, but you also get an in-game currency for use as well. I envision them as physical Bitcoins, and I think it would be kind of cool. Smiley

There is already a craftbukkit plugin that adds an economy with money, trading, and stores to Minecraft. It would be possible to adapt this to use real money (bitcoins). The question is: would anyone actually pay?

What would be the point of having in-game money? From my experience it doesn't add anything to the game. However, I would be willing to donate bitcoin to fund the server. As long as it was 100% optional.

Heh, I can offer hosting for your server for probably cheaper than most places, and since I'm not very active on my server I'd be more than happy to endorse yours.
