Google has been sued in Russia after the company announced restrictions on the use of encrypted currency advertising. Entrepreneur vladimir o 'rehov has asked Russia's Google to pay 2 billion rubles. He claims the ban deprives him of investing in cryptocurrency projects and finding investors to fund his business plans.

lost what opportunity? Cheesy
the opportunity to invest in ICO scams that keep on coming out and use to use Google to advertise their scam? or maybe he was trying to make his own ICO scam and he couldn't get the same number of gullible newbies to lose their money into his scam!
to be honest Suing google for this seems more like a joke and since the source of it is not really valid i am going to assume it is a joke. and by the way the source is in Chinese!

I don't know why we need Google when there are is an existing altcoin section here and ICO rating site where they can look upon, Google has their own policy to protect, we really need regulation on this scam ICO proliferating on the internet.

Your statement is true, Every company has their own policies should the entrepreneur is aware that Google decides it is not without reason. Preferably in this forum which is certainly more than 90% related to crypto.

It's like suing SkySports for losing the train and getting to the stadium after the gates closed.
I've already read their claims and the ones used by the others that are planning to sue and childish is the best way to describe their attitude and actions

And yes, a group from China is suing a search engine that is blocked in China!!!!
You can't make this stuff up!!!

Ps...Theymos should start worrying...what if they sue Bitcointalk also?  Wink

This is a great news if Vladimir will win the case google will remove the ban of cryptocurrency related ads and ICO's on Russia. THis is just the start but sooner other countries will also do the same. Bitcoin holders and investors will also come back again with a strengthened faith to bitcoin. If this flow will be achieved then bitcoin will can recover its value soon.

I think it's a very petty thing if you think to blame google. google has a good reason why doing so. they do not want the plaftform to be used as a fraud tool on behalf of ICO
they do not want their users harmed by irresponsible parties

what will this work for?
I think google will ignore it unless some companies do something similar. I think it's a good move to have a solution to this problem. hopefully will be followed by other crypto companies to sue google

Google and Facebook banning ICO-spam from their platforms was the best move for every party involved -- Google and Facebook, would-be investors and the crypto-community as a whole. The only ones losing out are bullshitters trying to ride the blockchain hype train... and nothing of value was lost.

There's enough scams going on in this ecosystem as is.  Any respectable and viable project can very well live without those ads. The only ones truly relying on those ads were the snake-oil sellers and FOMO peddlers that don't have anything meaningful to offer besides vaporware and buzzwords. I hope they got hit where it hurts. Judging from the incoming lawsuits, it seems they did.

Still, I wonder on what basis they presume that any branche is entitled to advertising on Google. They're a private company after all.

Google has been banned in China as well.
So what?
This is to be expected from communist countries.
They do what they want in against western views.

well you can sue anyone if you think something is not wrong but as a private company google has the rights to ban anything it is not condemned with its policy and interest so I don`t think that this sue will end positively.

Oh well, at least someone said something about it. Although I really did love the fact that this vladimir guy really tried to say something and try to fight for what he thinks is right, I really cannot agree with him or side with him. As a businessman, he should understand that the name of that google is protecting is in already cornered and just did what they think is best to protect their legitimacy and the trust that people gives them. If google or facebook never did anything to stop these, then any person getting scammed would blindly blame them for everything which is what is think is what they are afraid of really. But hey, no matter who wins, it'll be something that we all just have to suck up.

I dont think that this guy named vladimir o 'rehov will win the case. First, google is a private company who can imposed his rules of what and duration of the advertisement. Second, google did the restriction not only to save their name but also to protect potential investors to be scammed since it is very easy to make an advertisement in google specially if you have the funds. Its like scamming more people using scammed money.

It looks like a joke for me too , i have not seen any legit source sharing this news and google being a multinational corporate they can decide which advertisement goes in , so there is no provision in which anyone could file anything , there has being a lot of trolls online celebrating their birthday (April 1).  Cheesy

I think, steps like these won’t help Bitcoin. Google has every right to ban any kind of ad in their platform, and to be honest they had the logic to ban Bitcoin ads. Most of those ads were full of scams. I believe some more suitable solution is needed in this case. Thanks for sharing.

vladimir does have a valid argument and Google imposing this ban deprives many other businesses and not only in Russia!

and depending on the outcome of this case more companies could come forward which will cost these guys even more money, they better act fast.

Hope they will reverse this decision to save themselves the legal settlements that are yet to come.

I really think Vladimir Putin has an authority to really sue google, But like all other guys in here I really think this is just for April's fool what I'm saying is if there would have a big problem with the economy of russia because of the banning I think Putin will have to take actions, But Yes it can be a joke even if google have ban all ICO that could not be a big problem because ICO can not be stop by just google alone there are many more things we can provide great help in spreading and advertising certain ICO's.

Google is a big market place for online advertising. And cryptocurrencies were become popular and highly accepted by people day by day. But the current decision taken by google might negatively affect the industry. I hope Google will reconsider their decision and make a better way forward.

Really?
And what makes Putin so special that he has the authority to do that?

Anyone can sue anyone, the problem is how to win in court.
And with those claims and without a real rapport showing the impact on their business and the loss they stand a chance of getting a penny, let alone a decision from the court that would require google to host ICO ads.

I think this is more just a pr stunt from those guys to attract investors on their ICOs.
And no, unfortunately, this is no April joke, it would have been far better if it was one.

vladimir does have a valid argument and Google imposing this ban deprives many other businesses and not only in Russia and depending on the outcome of this case more companies could come forward which will cost these guys even more money. That's not a valid argument.
If you run a store and somebody comes and tell you they want you to sell their weapons through it, are you free to refuse? Google already has banned tobacco ads and no one was stupid enough to go against it.
And the tobacco industry spends a sum that equals the market cap of Litecoin on ads each year.

Vladimir Orehov, not Putin Wink

Not that it changes anything, but next thing we know there'd be rumours all over the place about Putin running ICOs.

Well, maybe he does >_>

And with those claims and without a real rapport showing the impact on their business and the loss they stand a chance of getting a penny, let alone a decision from the court that would require google to host ICO ads.

To make things even more silly, even if it impacted their business, what's that to the courts? Google is neither violating any rights nor is it abusing its market dominance to its own advantage. Even Orehov's argument is more a statement of entitlement than anything else:

The Russian crypto entrepreneur says the ban will deprive him of opportunities to invest in crypto projects and also find other investors willing to support his business plans. Orehov wants to be compensated for the “moral damage” caused by the ban and insists on its lifting.

What's next? Guy sues Tinder for the "moral damage" of not getting laid?

Hi,

Your title and your post are saying two different things...   Undecided

Has Google been sued (that is to say accused and potentially brought in front of a Court, but not necessarily proven guilty) or charged (that is to say proven guilty and ask to pay a certain amount of money)? What is the situation actually?

If Google really has been charged after being proven guilty... Well, I may not like the Russian system, I would admire this country for being able to make Google finally pay. They are making so many actions everywhere, depriving people from what they should have (taxes in all countries that they should pay to the government), they should be paying. A lot.

There's no need to file charges on google for their move. They're just protecting their users, especially those who are not very knowledgeable to scams. Besides, if your project is really promising, you don't need mainstream media to promote it. Just like bitcoin.

It is Google to decide whom to ban or whom to allow business in it's portals.  This is also being done to prevent fraudulent scamming  ICOs.  This action is much in favor of innocent investors whose money is being taken away by fraudsters.

Hope they will reverse this decision to save themselves the settlements that are yet to come.

A well known person and the president of Russia and Forbes Top 1 of The World's Most Powerful People since 2016, He could really start a war if he would like to, But then again there is no point in doing such things just because google have ban ICO's, And That is what I think why Vladimir can really have such an authority to do it, But again I really think he would never do such things, And I just assume it is a joke because I'd never seen any news involve these But in fact it can not be take as a joke as well.

Vladimir Orehov, not Putin Wink

Not that it changes anything, but next thing we know there'd be rumours all over the place about Putin running ICOs.

Well, maybe he does >_>

Told you he was really talking about Putin....

He is the presidents of a country with a GDP per capita the same as Turkey and overall on pair with Australia.
Putting himself in the first line in an economic battle right now would be a feat worthy of FailArmy biggest Fail of the year. There is a limit to stupidity, even in Russia.

And as Heretik pointed out ....get their names right.
Not every Russian is named Putin.

This step taken by GOOGLE for the sincere, serious and innocent investors is really commendable. We should support them in this action in order to make scammers suffer. They should be punished heavily if they are every caught for scamming innocents. There is no drawback of crypto currencies but the only problem people are facing is getting scammed online. It is a great hindrance for interested investors.
