If bitcoin reaches 1000 , we are going to see a lot fewer donators , not many people would give 10 K to 50 K dollars ...
So , why not attach it to Fiat , but still charge it in BTC ?

No longer active on bitcointalk, however, you can still reach me via PMs if needed.

What benefit is there to fixing it to fiat? Why not just update the price to something reasonable every once in a while?

Not going to happen.

If you had done some research you would have found many other threads asking the same thing.  The price has been fixed in BTC and will stay that way.  New ranks may be created in the future, but current donator and VIP ranks will never lower in price.

In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't "invest" in this site with donator or VIP status way back when I first considered it.

Supporting these forums monetarily supports Butterfly Labs' efforts as an advertising outlet, and fuck everything about that.

Besides, what's the point in donator of VIP status anyway ? That's sort of like saying "Hey look everybody ! I have a VIP booth at Mos Eisley Cantina !"

(... grumbles something about Hero Member status... damnit...)

It's just a badge anyway.

And I don't think this is a good idea. In no area or forum on earth does the registration date and donor status tell so much about the user as here.

The VIPs, donors and hero members are going down in history and I'd say the uniqueness of this shall be preserved. Wink

The only idea that comes into my mind is to transform this into some kind of achievement system. Cheesy

Because this is a BTC forum.

And do you think people who donated 50 BITCOINS to a BITCOIN forum are going to be happy about it?

The owner has already stated many times that he does not need any more Bitcoin for the forum as he has enough already.

But obviously the members want donator status but simply can't afford it.

Micro bitcoins will become more of a reality. I am personally against this idea of donators being switched to fiat.

Edit: Your topic title, and OP are a bit contradictory. It's expected that the site would naturally switch to micro bitcoin if necessary. From what I understand, so far, it's not.
